Sensor Class Hlstory by Carol Maurek We were the lucky freshmen Hazmg having been out lawed we stepped on the campus without fear of lipstick soaked clothes burdensome books and all the other horrifying experiences that had befallen our predecessors The first few days were full of mistakes We went into the wrong rooms and forgot our teachers names It was confusing and we were confused As the weeks fiew by we slowly became accustomed to the life and manner of C H S students We voted Ted Stork as class president with Martm Nathanson vice president and Ruth Domsalla secretary We gave our first class dance between semesters The Basket Ball At Home coming Bea Eastman was our class attendant and during the Gateway Classic Nancy Knudsen held the honor When Annual time came around Anne Saxton and Ted Stork were our representative boy and girl As sophomores with a year of experience behind us we held our heads a httle higher Officers were Adam Bartz Martm Nathanson Phyllis Hoffman and jack Klopp Athlete were beginning to pop up here and there Ted Stork was our only football player to earn a major letter but Don Parker Adam Bartz Art Sheller Bob Fitch and Herb Boegel were playing tough football on the sophomore squad Albert Machael jack Moldt and Art Sheller won major letters in swimming Ed Zrrbes was showmg talent at wrest Homecoming queen She was also our contribution to the cheerleaders and we were sorry to see her leave for California Anne Saxton showed dramatic ability by taking lead parts in Spider Island and The Intimate Stranger She left us too-for Alabama Dolores Nichols was our class at tendant for the Gateway Classxc of 1945 As juniors we had big things to accomphsh We elected Bill Clancy Dave Bonebrake Phyllis Swartz and Phillip Hoffman to lead us Durmg football season many of our fellows played on the varsity team At Homecoming Shirley Lorenz was our attendant to the queen Dean Pxeper was our pride and Joy on the famed Fire Wagon Five but Ted Stork Herb Boegel and Bob Becker are by no means to be forgotten Dean and Bob Roush were beginning to take honors in track Our Junior Carnival was as the whole class will agree one of the best ever We called it The Sidewalks of New York janet Goodsman and jim Berdan were elected carmval queen and kmg At the Gateway Classic Barbara O Laughlm was Junior attendant to the queen For the Prom we elected Joan Chalgren and Dean Preper as queen and king with Beverly Hall janet Goodsman Charlotte Hunter Nancy Knudsen Paul Strohm Ted Stouk Dave Bonebrake and Bill Glerhart as attendants In the scholarship field Shirley Andrews and Paul Strohm received American history awards Those who earned membership ln the National Honor Society as Juniors were Phyllis Hoffman Adam Bartz Delores Vorbeck Anne Saxton Carol Maurek Mary Ellen jones Janet Schmitz Paul Strohm and Corahe Melssner As seniors the class of 1947 began to realize how quickly four years had passed Herb Hanger was elected student body president On his cabinet were janet Schmitz Paul Hagenson and Bob Roush Class officers were Bill Clancy Paul Strohm Coralle Mexssner and Shirley Andrews We were mighty proud of our football basketball and track squads and special mention must be given to our state champion swimming team Seniors on It were Paul Brxeske Dave Bonebrake Art Sheller Al Machael Kenneth Lahm and Allen Lund Dean Pxeper s track and basketball ability were outstanding and in general a class could not wish for a finer group of athletes Our Homecoming queen was joan Chalgren with jane Koestler as senior attendant Nancy Knudsen was the 1947 Gateway Classic queen and her senior attendant was Barbara O Laughlm We ve had our share of fun and excitement On Monday nights we were at the Milk Bar when we should have been home crammmg for a Tuesday test Remember how the boys would line up along the wall and just sit there? After school we could see Ruthie Domsalla s Tea Ticket racmg down town with Regina rats hangmf' out the back end The Boobs would be chugging along somewhere in The Wreck of the Hesperus Many seniors will recall working on the Pillsbury construction job We owe our thanks to Neale Adair for all the work he did on posters announcing dances The sextette composed of Mary Ellen jones Ednabelle Drury, Jane Butzbach Gloria Swanson Janet Goodsman and Marilyn Bockel often provided us with soft melodies Senior girls on the G A A advisory board will not forget the good times they had in evening meetings Slumber parties fjokell coke tail parties before and after dances deb meetings and nights at the Y were all a part of our extra curricular activities Now those fond remembrances have faded into the past We are not able to foresee our futures but there ts one thing we do know for certain We are entering an era seeking world recovery and we realize that we have a definite share in that era Let our class go forth open minded wxth a will to accomplish an everlasting peace Twenty three I l .
