THIS BOOK BELONGS TO I 1 . MM L Hi S 5 • THE CLINTONIAN PRESENTED BY CLASS OF 1961 ALMA MATER Faithful and true-hearted. Let us cheer our dear old High. We revere her and defend her, As her colors proudly fly. We will stand for her united: Of her deeds we gladly tell. Her colors streaming, Glad faces beaming, So herds a cheer for her That we all love so well. Joyous and ever loyal, Let us cheer our dear old High. Let every heart sing; Let every voice ring; There’s no time to grieve or sigh. It’s ever onward Our course pursuing May defeat ne’er our ardor cool. So, united we will cheer for her, Our old high school. Seated: E. Zumbrun, L. Grant, K. Dcver, K. Jason, L. Robinson, K. Dawes, Advisor. Standing: A. Dawes, J. Brooks, D. Kaido, H. Mr. Morgan, better known as Coach, has inspired us with feelings of sportsmanship and school spirit. His familiar talks” at the pep rallies and Award Assemblies have instilled us with a will to try harder and play fairer. Through his constant willingness to help the youth of our Com- munity, he has rendered an invaluable service. During the school year he coaches our school teams; during the summer he supervises recre- ation at the swimming pool. His familiar pacing on the football field and his watchful eye as coach and teacher have made him a person we will long remember. Coach, the Class of 1961 says, Thank you. IN APPRECIATION - MISS GRIFFIN To future ages mayst thou stand, Untouched by the rash workman’s hand. Till that large stock of sap is spent, Which gives thy summer’s ornament: Till the fierce winds, that vainly strive To shock thy greatness whilst alive, Shall on thy lifeless hour attend, Prevent the axe and grace thy end, Their scattered strength together call And to the clouds proclaim thy fall, Who then their evening dews may spare, When thou no longer art their care, But shall, like ancient heroes, hum And some bright hearth be thy urn. — Lady Winchilsea ADMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION First Row: Mr. Stanley Germond, Mrs. Landon Rockwell, President; Mr. Raymond Miller. CLASS HISTORY FRESHMEN As the shy young apprentices came meekly into the presence of the masters in the days of King Arthur, so we the Freshmen of the Class of 1961, came to Clinton Central School. Upon electing Linda Robinson, President; Charles Moore, Vice-President; Amanda Heintz, Secretary; and Eunice Zumbrun, Treasurer, we set out to obtain a few pennies for our empty treasury. Thus, with the goal to promote the best magazine drive ever. Freshmen were seen at every doorstep. Our enthusiasm provided its reward. We netted six hundred and twenty-two dollars! Kathie Jason w'on the radio for being the high salesman in the drive. To this staggering amount, the appren- tices added nine dollars and forty-four cents, the profit of our In a Japanese Garden” — themed Frosh Frolic. Also our green hands and minds were working for the Community Day float, The Flu Bug,” and a Winter Carnival skit. SOPHOMORE More skilled and experienced, the Class of 1961 advanced from apprenticeship to journey work with Stanley Dziekonski as President. On his staff were Linda Robinson, Vice-President; Eunice Zumbrun, Secretary; and Ann Dawes, Treasurer. For Community Day we decided on a hula-hoop theme. After Community Day, fell Winter Carnival. The young journeymen became wiser with these trying projects. Wiser we had to be, for our next project was the promotion of the Senior-Sophomore Reception. To make some money, the wise Sophomores sponsored a movie. This brought our treasury at the close of the year to four hundred and fifty-seven dollars and forty-seven cents. JUNIOR Now. having completed two years, the Class of 1961 confidently became upperclassmen. Capable Stan Dziekonski was again elected to the office of President. The other officers were Jackie Morrow, Vice-President; Eunice Zumbrun, Recording Secretary; Kathie Jason, Corres- ponding Secretary; and Ann Dawes, Treasurer. The first problem our more experienced workmen faced, was the choosing of class rings. The competent ring committee gave the class three types from which to choose. The class voted and type Z was chosen. After ordering them the class members waited anxiously until the last day of Christmas vacation when they arrived. Six dollars was added to the treasury after our first dance. To this we added five dollars which we won for first prize in the Community Day float contest with our Anatomy of a Murder. At this rate we were gaining a little, but we still needed more. Our stored energy went into the promotion of a successful button drive. This increased our treasury some ninety- five dollars. This success inspired the inexhaustible Juniors to have a candy sale. The result of this united class effort netted a profit of one hundred dollars. Things were looking up. Then came the project which is always entered with a light heart but is left behind with a heavy one — The Prom! Prom committees were set and the toil was begun. Because Princess Margaret's wedding and the Prom took place on the same day, the theme of our Prom was The Talk of the Town.” Accordingly, the gym was decorated following the color scheme of the Royal Ball Room, red, gold, and white. After a week of working with the maze of crepe-paper, the eventful night came. Lawrence Luizzi provided the music, and at eleven o’clock Linda Robinson was crowned our beautiful Queen. After the post-prom party in the Grammar School the most exciting night of our high school careers came to a close. To finish off the exciting year, two Juniors, Stan Dziekonski and Sue Collins, were elected President and Vice-President of the Student Council. SENIOR Hey, Ken, we’re Seniors. Whoopee! This was the first reaction of the Class of 1961 to its new' honor of being Seniors. However, the second was, I’d better get to work. College is ahead.” The members of the class chosen to lead in their final year were: Jackie Morrow. President; Jim Brooks, Vice-President; Eunice Zumbrun, Secretary; and Ann Dawes, Treasurer. Also, the Seniors had to work hard to earn money. To achieve this, they sold candy and writing paper, and sponsored a movie. Also the Seniors might have started a new’ trend by selling hot-dogs, success- fully, at football games. This money was to go for graduation and a class gift. But still the future years were foremost in the Seniors’ minds. College Boards w’ere met and overcome. Scholarships, applications, writing biographies, all were started by the worthy Seniors. After entering as apprentices, the sturdy members of the Class of 1961 graduated on June 26 as firm stalwart citizens.
