UNITED WE STAND All of us in the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District -students, parents, teachers, administrators, secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, board members - are about to end an old era and begin a new one. For many years now, it has been Phelps versus Clifton Springs - in academics, in sports, in facilities and in just about any other competitive way imaginable. That division no longer exists. Legally, we have been one school district since June 1967 but we have thus far maintained almost complete physical separation. With the opening of our new school building next fall, that physical separation will be a thing of the past. We shall be together as one student body, one faculty, one team. We shall no longer be subject to the many weaknesses of a house divided because we shall have a common house which will draw its strength from the students it receives from the entire school district. Chiefly, this strength will make a lasting contribution to the improvement of instruction for the students of Phelps-Clifton Springs. Together, we shall face this new era with courage and determination to provide the best in education for every child in the school district. John D.
