Clifton High School has always produced athletic teams of high calibre. Naturally, then, Clifton has had a high standing among other schools in athletic competition. The athletics we have participated in at Clifton High have given us a knowledge of competition and spirit. These, as well as other valuable factors, will prove to be useful to us in our plans for the future. A background of athletics can well fill out our Blueprint for the coming years. The sportsmanship, teamwork, and 'competitive spirit we have thus employed in school, have already been of value. What is more important, we shall keep them in our minds and find these lessons which we have learned on the field useful throughout our lives. . .T X N531 I I ' '-0 1fl1f0l'ff Jl' ' STRENGTH THROUGH EXPERIENCE AND SKILLED GUIDANCE

The Clifton Mustangs proved to be most successful in their football campaign of l949. For the third time in four years, the boys emerged as victors of the Passaic Val- ley Conference. In conference games, the Clifton eleven maintained an undefeated record of five wins and no losses. ln outside tussles, they suffered two setbacks with only one win, giving them a 6 and 2 record for the season. However, these statistics of games won and lost do not give a complete picture of the team and the boys who were part of it. If we were able to move the calendar back to September 1949, we would hear or read numerous predictions and criticisms, concerning our team. The line, supposedly was green from end to end, but under the skillful and patient guidance of Joe Grecco, Thirty Bill Lennon and Floyd Porter, the Maroon and Gray set out to make the best of what they had. As the weeks progressed, so did the team. The line buckled down, and with the strong batkfield, they made a combina- tion that clicked perfectly. Unfortunately, there were some injuries to some of the key players. Among the casualties were Ronnie DeLorenzo, Steve Garabics, and Red Reuter, all of whom were kept out of action for part of the season. Joe Smith and Joe Mikula also missed three games because of iniuries sustained while defending the name and fame of the Clifton team, In spite of these difficulties the boys played with the confidence, ability, and true sportsmanship that is synonymous with the Clifton Mustangs.
