An expert deckman and versed in shiphandling techniques and amphibious operations. Mr. Tonelli is the reigning authority in the well-deck, B St A crane, forecastle, and boat operations. Although not generally known as a possessor of uncanny luck during this deployment in- the Philippines, he has a store of wealth in seafaring' stories that has allowed him to teach well many a junior officer and qualify many a boatswain's mate. Soon to leave the Cleveland, Mr. Tonelli, Terrible Tony , will be missed . . . at balloon con- trol . . . and at his forecastle station.

Whether sunning on the deck, holding services on the forecastle, or counseling in his office, the Chaplain was always ready with a listening ear and a piece of advice. And he never passed the collection plate.
