SENIOR CLASS OF 1956 CLASS OFFICERS: First Row: Secretary, Mary Lou Gillisong Vice- President, Sandey Sobleg President, Rod Simonsen. Second Row: Sgt.-at- Arms, Bill Lambertg Treasurer, Phyllis Irelandg Sgt.-at-Arms, Joe Teresi. The story of the Class of 1956 begins back in the fall of 1952 when they were but lowly freshmen. They started out with the traditional Freshie Frolicv presented by the senior class. King Lee Knight and Queen Shirley McDonald reigned over the affair. During their sophomore year .loan Crane was crowned queen of the annual Rhododendron Show, and in their junior year Carole Jones was queen. As a junior, Hugh Springer was an outstand- ing member of the Varsity Basketball Team. Marge Willits broke a state record for the back-stroke in swimming. Ralph Kester and Hugh Springer made all-city teams in football and basketball, respective- ly. Phyllis lreland, Lucy Latham, and Rod Simon- sen were Cleveland's representatives to Europe under the American Field Service Program. The class of 1956 will long be remembered be- cause of the many traditions that it has started. These include the .1 unior Prom, Senior Girls' Pot- luck, and HToyland Tumblef' The first annual Junior Prom H15-lbb Tidef' which was held by the class in the spring of 1955, was a terrific success. Through the female class officers, a Senior Girls' Potluck was initiated. Everyone had a good time and full stomachs. The senior class held a Christmas dance, Toyland Turnblef' Admission was two toys per couple to help the Toy and Joy-makers. The annual L'Freshie Frolicn was presented by the senior class with the outstanding attraction being the senior boys, ballet. Their Senior Class Play was a mystery farce entitled Ramshackle Inn. The Senior Class of 1956 bids farewell to Cleveland High Schoolas they journey into the world.
