ALPHA PHI OMEGA Alpha Phi Omega, the largest fraternity in the nation, was established at Clemson in 1940. Since that time, the brothers of the Gamma Lambda chapter have served the students of the University and the sur- rounding Clemson area. Through various social and service pro- jects, the inward feeling of joy from helping others is created in those who participate. This year Alpha Phi Omega provided infor- mation tables during registration, the Famous Friday Flicks, a " Come On — Let ' s Keep It Clean " drive to beautify the Clemson Campus, the APO Book Exchange, trans- portation for a stroke victim ' s therapy, a Christmas tree lighting for the student body, visitation with the boys at the Boy ' s Home of the South, and a Chronicle delivery service. The three worlds of Alpha Phi Omega are leadership, friendship, and service. Brother- hood is open to those dedicated to these fundamentals. JOHN E. TOPPING, President ■«t..-

At first glance, the Student Associations section may appear to be just a conglomeration of organizations and clubs which TAPS could not find a place to put. But after looking at Student Associations one could con- clude that these organizations are much more than left overs. These clubs and organizations are supported by people who share one common interest within each club. It involves either politics, religion, languages or services to the people. To become a member of these organizations all one has to do is show an interest. These clubs and organizations are not strong enough because they lack the support of the people, yet there are many people on campus who share the same interest. Even with the small number of members, these organizations are able to remain active in the university. This year has been an extraordinary one for people involved in politics because of the national elections. This provided the opportunity for involvement and gave the average student a chance to be responsible for the steps that this country takes. Everyone is concerned with religion but the problem often times lies within the individual not sharing his belief. The religious organizations attempt to provide the opportunity for expression of beliefs. They are often misunderstood or »ieti mMei atm x possible, but they keep trying. Maybe someday people will start listening. Language clubs have it a little easier. They don ' t try to change people ' s minds, they just give many students an insight into the customs which are different from one ' s own. These clubs are open especially to the minority groups to interrelate them with other people of the university. Believe it or not, other organizations on campus are also concerned with serving people and trying to make their lives a little more enjoyable. Their services range from aiding underprivileged children to helping the students beat the bookstore ' s racket. They certainly deserve some support that usually isn ' t seen or expected. You may have realized by now that Student Organizations have accomplished something at Ciemson this year. Although their activities could be called trivial or useless by some, they are worth more than that. This year, at least they have lighted a spark under a lot of people that previously did nothing. Maybe next year that spark can become a fire.
