INDUSTRIAL ARTS H. FORREST SMITH - U. of Fla., B.A.E., B.F.E., M. Ed.; Me- chanical Drawing, Arts and Crafts, Art. With the might of a charging herd of wild ele- phants . . . General woodworking, arts and crafts, and me- chanical drawing compose our Industrial Arts Pro- ► gram. Designing and constructing wood products is the object of woodworking students. Projects are de- signed, their construction studied and the project pro- duced by use of academic activity in conjunction with laboratory work. All projects are achieved by hand and machine processes. The basic aims of the Arts and Crafts courses are to develop skills through working with copper, leather, ceramics, and other materials, and to fill leisure time with self-satisfying work. Engineers, architects, and designers use mechan- ical drawing to record their ideas. It has been called the language of industry. Mechanical drawing teaches exact thinking and visual and imaginative construction. NED FRISBIE - mi U. of Ohio, B ing Green U., M.Ed.; Mechar Drawing I, II, III.

SPEECH The Speech Department, under the conscientious direction of Mr. Van, continues to bring honor and recognition to Clearwater High School. Through Speech his students are given the opportunity to develop adeptness at speaking and organization of thinking. If they show interest and ability, they may be selected for the most advanced course, Debate. National Forensic League, one of the most active organizations at C.H.S., is an outgrowth of the Speech Department. It regularly offers its members competition with area and state high school students in original oratory, debate, ex- temporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation and humorous interpretation. DRIVER EDUCATION Dr. Livingston, I presume? ED WELLS, JR. - Morehead State Col- lege, A.B.; Driver Ed., Phys. Ed., Track, Football. As students assume the grave responsibilities of driving a car, they are provided with the proper instruction by the Driver Education Department. The students are given classroom instruction concerning the mechanics of an automobile and other information related to rules and regulations of the road, and the care of the car. In addition, they are given actual driving experience on the open highway and in city traffic and practice in controlling a car in various driving situations. The course was greatly supplemented this year by the addition of a driving range in the C.H.S. parking lot. The City of Clearwater offers the opportunity to practice in city traffic and to learn other traffic skills essential to becoming a good driver.
