Preparing the teenagers of today for the future responsibilities of homes and families, the Home Economics program encompasses many aspects of a rewarding career. In addi- tion to traditional courses in clothing, textiles, foods, and nutrition, more specialized instruc- tion is offered at Clearwater High School. ZYLPHIA LEWIS - Eastern State College, U. of Kentucky, B.S., M.A.; Home Ec.. I, II, Future Homemakers of America, Dept. Chairman. Child Development, Housing, Interior Dec- orating, and Personal Relationships are taught in advanced classes. With the addition of a third teacher to the department this year plus a very active Future Homemakers chapter. Home Economics is becoming an in- creasingly more important subject.

DIVERSIFIED COOPERATIVE TRAINING JOHN ROBERTS JR. — Ball State Teachers College, B.S., M.A.; D.C.T. Diversified Cooperative Training is a program designed for high school Juniors and Seniors interested in trade areas such as machine shop practice, electronics, radio and tele- vision servicing, auto mechanics, nurs- es, dental assistants, and many others. The students complete their high school graduation requirements by attending school one-half day and working the other half day. This pro- vides work and compensation as well as learning situations for those en- gaged in DCT. DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION RUTH POPE — U. of Houston, B.A., F.S.U. grad. Study; D.E., DE- DCT Club. Clearwater High School offers the Distributive Education program to Seniors and Juniors who desire to learn for careers in merchandising and marketing. These students attend school one-half day to complete grad- uation requirements while they work and earn in their respective positions. 25

Students are given the opportunity to par- ticipate in and learn the fundamentals of various sports. The varsity sports which constitute such an important part of the school year are under the supervision of our Phys. Ed. instructors. Girls are also given the chance to engage in after school activities by taking part in intramurals.
