SECOND ROW: Jimmy Clark, Westlake Goehring, Roger Ashley, Wally Niswander, George Fiske, Buz Lohrbauer, Eddie Tonry. One of the main factors ot our education is to learn government. What better way could teach us than to elect our own student govern- ment, the Student Council. We choose our leaders through votes cast by the student body in the Spring. This year our choice tor student government leaders was: Dede Flemings, President, Montine Penning- ton, Vice-President, Joan Golson, recording secretary, Beverly Rippard, corresponding secretary, and Linda Fischer, treasurer. The Student Council has many projects throughout the year. Among their activities this year are Orientation ot Sophomores, selling tootball pins, saying grace before lunch, leadership classes, all school elections, and the C.H.S. Carnival. This busy and ever-striving group is advised by Mrs. Harman. Everyone loves a parade-especially Homecoming Parade This is where all the C.H.S. Veeps make their head- quarters. Well, at least they hold one meeting at the month there. The Vice-Presidents ot all Clearwater High's clubs are members ot the I.C.C. Their duty is to coordinate all club activities and projects so that conflicts will be at a minimum. Each member represents one ot the clubs in C.H.S, This year I.C.C. took full responsibility tor the Homecoming Parade and bonhre. Page Twenty-One . It is the Senate, of course. One delegate selected from each homeroom constitutes this organization. Under the supervision of Mr. Roberts Brown, the Senate meets to sponsor an attitude of good will among the student body. ln addition to this, the Senate is responsible tor the school's Honor Roll. The Homecoming Dance was sponsored by this group as was the Red Cross Drive and the school pictures. 4. .. , ,,,, , L.. , FIRST ROW: Charlton Futch, Dotty Clark, Bill Valle, Kent Bob Moore, Ronnie Vandervliet, Pam Kimball. SCIENCE CLUB CLUB SPONSORS EXCURSIONS INTO FUTURE This group ot young scientists has an active and interesting club under the guiding hand ot Mr. William Stephan. Their regular meetings provide an opportunity to discuss ideas and proiects in science. To encourage active interest in science, a requirement for membership is a scientific proiect and good marks in science in school. Their main project for the year is a trip to the annual Science Clubs Convention in December. This year the convention was held in Miami, with a large delegation from C.H.S. attending. Besides the chance to exchange ideas with students of another school, there were many op- portunities to have good times ot an un-scientific nature. This is a well-rounded club at good students with a goal in lite. Gee! That is news to them , ,, Refreshments after the meeting . .. Invitations are extended twice each year. Each member strives to uphold the ideals of this or- ganization which include character, scholarship, and leadership. Initia- tions prove to be unforgettableg the hrst is informal, and the second a formal banquet. One of the biggest and most successful projects is helping new students acquaint themselves with their teachers and make new friends at C.l'I.S. A highly successful project was the square dance for new students. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed working with Mr. Van Gorder, the director and adviser. C.H.S. was represented at the Speech Contest in Lakeland this year by members ot Masque and Gavel. Homernaking is one of the most practical classes in school. Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Diekman combine their skill and guide the F.H.A.'s this year in the radio program, the County Fair exhibits, the District VI meeting in St. Petersburg, and in being hostesses to the F.H.A. The Key Club constitution is modeled after that ot the Ki- wanis Club, its father organization. The CLEARLIGHT, formerly known as the Cl-IATTER, is a bi-monthly publication resulting from the hard work and increasing endeavors of the devoted CLEARLIGHT staff. Each member of this hand-picked group strives to keep the school well-informed of past, immediate, and forth- coming events at C.l'l.S. Adequately covering and reporting the school news along with such featurettes as the Calendar Girl, Senior Spotlight, and complete sports coverage rounds out their program and leaves their mark on C.H.S. life. The assembly imitating famous T.V. shows, launched the sale of annuals in November. Finally the last multiple was sent, and we held our breath for tear we had left a page blank. They were happy years-multiplication tables, fractions, predi- cate nominatives, The Magna Charta, Pythagorean Theorum, atoms, friends, dances, parties, honors. The richest heritage that the l956 youth can receive is within our reach today. The gratitude to all who have had a part in guiding us is only exceeded by our enthusi- asm for the opportunities of the future.
