This year the chatter was published every three weeks and was commercially printed for the first time. All make-up and writing of advertisements was prepared by student members. The major projects of the year were the press tournament sponsored by Florida State University, the style show which climaxed the sewing contest, and the encouragement of student creative writing, the best of which was published in the Chatter. George keeps the shutters clitking Library Club The Clearwater Senior High School Library serves as a materials center for our school. In it are about 5,000 books, pamphlets, and magazines. We use these materials daily, for reference, research, and recreational purposes. XXf.1rm-up Mr. Yanctovich, director of the orchestra, has placed several of the outstanding students in several semi-professional symphonic orchestras in this area. Clearwater High School is one of the few schools of its size that boasts of an orchestra. Each year music scholarships from universities and colleges are offered to the graduating students of the orchestra. Their first program this season was played at the Masonic Home followed a week later by presenting Back to Boogie for the P.T.A. meeting in Sep- tembcr. - Q A B nonfarm-.. The Orchestra is becoming widely known through- out the state for its fine performances in concerts, contests, and participation in the Florida Music Edu- cators Conferences. There are five officers-a president, recording secretary, cor- responding secretary, vice president and treasurer. These officers are elected by the entire student body. The rest of the membership is composed of the president of the Senate, the president of the I.C.C., the presidents of the Sophomore, junior, and Senior classes, the editors-in-chief of the Annual and Chatter staff, a reporter, and an elections chairman. The Student Council sold novelty football pins, school pictures, and spon- sored Homecoming. They also sponsored orientation of new students, pub- lished and distributed handbooks for all students, and conducted all school- wide elections. Miss Arnold is the advisor. He was an outstanding athlete at Rollins College. Wheii asked his opinion of the 1954 season, he said, I am very well satisfied with the team this year. Coach Walters, our head basketball coach, comes to us from Ohio where he ex- celled in his favorite sport, which everyone knows is basketball. He has been with us for two years, both being very successful. Coach Dudley, our baseball coach, is the only coach who hails from our home town. This is his first year with us and we hope he will see many more. Coach Brown comes to us from Knoxville, Tennessee. He is assistant line coach lor our Tornadoes. This is his second year at CHS.
