The class of 1945 began much as all classes of all schools begin — in gi ' ammar school — and continued much as other classes do — to Junior High. Until ninth grade we did nothing very extraordinary or even note- worthy. But then, we did something which will probably be for many years a monument to us. In the second semester, we elected Paul Mc- Cardel as president and set in motion the Student Council of Junior High That year, too, brought the war, and with it many new and inter csting members to the class. In 1942 we felt the heavy annual influx from Dunedin and Safety Harbor swelling our ranks as we became slightly more skilled builders. We were proud of cursslves and showed it by boldly declaring our equality with upper-classmen in social functions. That year we continued under the guidance cf master-mason Paul McCardel, who, we decided (on the strength of his Student Council presidency the year before), had a firm guiding hand. In 1943-44 we were .just behind the seniors, and we felt it, too. We were old enough to be in some classes with them that year that we elect- ed Dick Cochran as president— that year that we had our pictures just a few pages behind these of the seniors and felt through them some of the poignancy of graduation. Now it is our turn. It is we who are graduating. We are the finish- ers — the interior decorators, and our chief artist is Mary Anne Skinnei. Our other supervisors are Paul McCardel as president of the Student Coun- cil and Mrs. Crowell as our adviser. As seniors we have had one experience few other C.H.S.’ers have felt— a change of principal during our stay in High School. The news of “Prof Mac’s” death came during the summer, but we all felt it. However, on getting acquainted with our new principal, Mr. Feagle, we found our loss was somewhat compensated by the quality of our new leadership. We have had much the same experiences as most seniors in other ways- We gave as our play, “The Brat” ; we had Skip Day, Baccalaureate, and finally graduation with its round of parties and dances. The sermon was held on the night of May 27th at the Baptist Church with the .Reverend A. E. Hoffpauir in charge. The theme for the commencement program was; American Youth Builds for Peace. We graduated gladly, but with regret too; for when we received our diplomas,we felt that half our youth was gone.
