If ' 27 szlas, the chore boy -by Upert ridleyu- high school hilarity hit historical high when the senior class play swung into action. the villian, gerald blake fplayed by eddye burlesonj, amid prolonged hisses' and boois, and of course the proverbial ttvillian mo- tive, snaked his way through many well played and conviiizing scenes, trying to out wit the bee-oo-ti-ful heroine, and gain pos- session of some valuable papers. margaret keller as cecil dare, the heroine who had loved not wisely, but too well, won the hearts of all who saw her as the poor unfortunate girl, being pursued so re- lentlessly by ttthat man. the hero, arthur ridley, tplayed by james wilderi was only a farmer's lad, but oh, such a handsome one. his lines were long and his part was hard, but hecarried them off in a way that would make true-blue harold hang his head in shame. walter Winchester, as silas stebbins, the chore boy, lived in a world all his own, filed with cowboys and indians. he could be found at any time of day reading the glor- ious adventures of scar-face mike, the ter- ror of the plains, which in the end proved to be o. k. since he used his wild west tac- tics to a good advantage in the capturing of poor cinch. the comedy element was supplied by burr randall, as cinch, the poor nigger who did all the dirty work for the villian, his weak- ness in life was a good pie or a good crap game hiram ridley, fplayed by eric pickerj, the father of the hero, and staunch believer of 4 the golden rule gave a very good perfor- mance. he lived up to the usual role of the father in a melodrama, by threatening to turn the poor heroine out of his house into the cold, cruel world. but the truth will out and being a man, all was forgiven in the end. betty clement as nancy ridley, hiram's old maid sister, gave a creditable performance. her part was very amusing, especially the way in whiih she would go about trying to gct jed perkins to propose to her. jed per- kins as the town constable, fthe part taken by john adamsj was also quite good. he and nancy furnished the secondary love inter- est in a very convincing fashion, by getting 'thitihedn after he had at last done some- thing heroic. pert ridley, tplayed by doris o'quinnb the hero's litlile pig-tailed sister, proved her worth by sticking by cecil through thizk and thin. orchids to our director, miss ila hopkins. despite her red hair, which is always a sure sign of temper, she was very patient with us. it is to her that we owe a great deal of the success of the play, most of us even sur- prised ourselves at the acting ability she brought out in us. this account would not be complete with- out giving a special vote of thanks to our Hprop-man , jack phillips. a gardenia to ro- zenia. it was under miss rozenia dunn's dir- ection that the flora-dora chorus swung out. to albert kilburn goes the credit for the eX- cellent advertising our show received. We are all proud of your unique advertisement, albert.
