the golf club the SY edition of the c. h. s. golf club was organized early in january. robert thomp- son was chosen president, eddye burleson, vice president, and burr randall, secretary, treasurer. the annual club tournament was held the third Week in april. eddye burleson copped medal honors, but as usual, the medalist was jinxed-he lost to robert thompson in the final match. the athletic association of the high school this year donated two beautiful trophies one going to burleson, the medalist, and the other to thompson, the winner of the tournament. both thompson and burleson graduate this june, but their spiked golf shoes will be ably filled by several sophomores entering next fall. sport side slants clearwater high school's athletic teams have won nationwide recognition this year. their intersectional football games were of nat- ional repute. we are proud of our teams: football, basketball, baseball, and golf. while not representing the school as a team, we have some swell sailors in our midst. they also helped to put clearwater on the prover- bial Hsports map. as you all know teamwork makes a team. this is the one prime factor of our success. let me bring to yo.u a few of the personalities whose outstanding teamwork account for the enviable record established by our teams. cobb corbitt, the burly fullback of the highly successful football team, guard on basketball team, and a member of the base- ball team, is hanging up his spiked shoes for ole' c.h.s. -a great athlete and a swell fellow will leave a gap in the ranks - one which is hard to fill. -sidney benford, better known as snoop , who is also a three letter man will graduate with a successful high school athletic career behind him. we Wish you continued success in future athletic acomplishments, old topg c. h. s. will miss you.-to Wesley pearce we offer our congrat- ulations. though small in physique, he was a 'mighty mite' on the basketball court. it was here he obtained fame for himself and c. h. s. not content with this, he is also a. depend- able football player. keep up the good work, Wesley. john, iron man mc iver, a four let- ter football man. for four, long, hard yearsi the first man on the field was old iron man . the alma mater will lose a dependable player in john. -allan staples, a newcomer to c. h. s., has established himself in ath- letic circles. we know c. h. s. wishes that you had several more years-their hard luck. for bill holley, j. d. holladay, and lloyd phillips there will be much regret felt. ev- eryone has to go, however. baseball this year C371 marked the return of organ- ized baseball to clearwater high school. the season was a highly successful one, consid- ering the inexperienced material with which coach padgett had to work. clearwater was eliminated in the semi-finals of the s. f. c. tournament by the strong win- ter haven nine. among c1earwater's victims so far this spring, were hillsboro, palmetto, bradenton, and sarasota. both bradenton and hillsboro- also defeated clearwater. hillsboro was selected in lieu of clearwater to represent the seventh district in the state tournament at orlando. their selection was due to a more impressive record than clear- water's. we all looked to a renewed interest next year when baseball season rolls around. We are also happy to announce that baseball is here to stay once again.
