X X i'-:, N ' pk Gff i xg I K 5 X - ' ' R 4 N CLASS PROPHECY June l 1962 Barbara Tedrick and I Betty Trumpower began our two weeks' vacation After graduating from college we were employed by Pangborn Corporation and have secured good positions This year we toured many of the states On the way to the airport we stopped at the Coffee Shop To our surprise the head waitress was Betty H1gg1ns She informed us that Ray Trumpower owned a chain of these Coffee Shops As we drank our coffee Leona Kline Marle Bur kett Rosie Flanagan and Justin Bridendolph entered and occupied the booth beside us These former classmates were on their way to work at Fairchild At the airport Edith Reed sold us our tickets to Washington and our big plane came thundering down the runway As we watched the pas sengers f1le by an attractive Captain in the waves caught our attention It was Jane Kratz' Directing us to our seats was Peggy Revell now a stewardess for American A1rl1nes Our big Jet was under the control of Ted and Jim Dundus Since we had such reliable pilots we knew our Journey would not only be safe but also pleasant As we approached the out skirts of Washington we saw the Parks Shaving Lotion Company and operated by Donald Tedrick Our steward ess told us to fasten our safety belts for the landing While reducing speed the right engine failed However we had a very smooth landing and the difficulty was soon repaired by the airport mechanic Richard Shoemaker Because of this unexpected delay it was necessary to go to the information bureau to find out when we could get another plane to Florida At the booth it was Joyce Yeakle who told us that our flight must be postponed until tomorrow noon To our delight standing beside us were Joan Hesson and Jean Hol Barbara andl were both tired and hungry so we halleda taxi to find a down town lodging Dodging the traffic we soon arrived at the hotel We paid the driver and realized it was Cecil Harbaugh the comedian of our school days Cecil wished us a very pleasant visit and went on his way with another customer We registered at the desk and Earl Small the manager greeted us Withplenty of time on our hands we decided to visit a few places of interest in Washington On this particular day the Senate was in session and much to our surpr1se Ruth Divelbiss was the private secretary of Senator Dolittle Representative of Maryland After a brief chat with Ruth we continued to the art gallery and saw a display of painting created bv Ollie Higgins Cn the wayback to the hotel we saw Lloyd Chaney and Norman Small solving one of the many traffic snarls that occur simultaneously in Wash ington These competent pohcemen assured us safety on our way to the hotel Wh11e dining and dancing in the Rainbow Room we met Jack Reed and Neal Gladhill now officers in the Navy The next morning we hurried to the airport to catch our plane to Miami Beach Florida After a smooth flight Barbara and I soon were enjoying that famed Florida sunshine On the sunbathedbeaches we saw Mr and Mrs Elwood Faith the former Beverly Kelly celebrating their tenth wedding annlversary Another couple spending their vacation here was Regina Mills and her husband Glenn Miles also chose Florida as his home He had a contract to build summer resorts along the beach S bert, doing post graduate work at the University of Maryland. After three days in Florida we started on a nonstop flight for California Flying over Texas we viewed the land of many thorough bred horse ranches One of the largest is ownedby Margaret Kershner This is the work Margaret has loved since childhood As we came to the end of our destination we flew over Travis Air Force Base and remem bered that Donald Shirk David Boyd and Robert Faith were stationed here They were taking advanced officers' training One of the most interesting places we visited was the MGM studio in Hollywood On the set we saw Janice Middlekauff as wardrobe m1s tress Elizabeth Weaver and Mary Snyder asha1r stylists These famous makeup artists were preparing Jean Shives for her star role in a movie that is sure to be an Academy Award winner Leaving the state of California Barbara and I flew over one of the bridges of which the Californians are so proud This structure was de signed by the famous engineer George Ecksteins While approaching Kansas and from a b1rd's eye view one of the largest and most prosperous wheat farms in that region could be seen Donald Startzman and Daniel Horst share the ownership of this vast territory We flew to Chicago to see the sights of the windy city While visit ing there we met Joan Albert who accompanied her husband to buy was Betty fMooreD Kratz district manager of McCrory's living with her husband who is personnel manager of the new Fairchild plant Our last stop was in New York Barbara and I spent three days in the fabulous Waldorf Astoria Hotel The dental department there seemed to be well managed by members of our class Jim Sampson was the capable dentist with Ruth Shank as his nurse Peggy Tedrick with her knowledge of X rays was a technician for Jim Also visiting the Wal dorf was Peggy Yetter and her husband who were on their way home from Niagara Falls While walking down New York's crowded streets we saw Ronald McAllister unloading merchandise at Macy's Ronald is now a cross country truck driver A billboard at Madison Square Garden was sporting a picture of the world's heavyweight champion wrestler we recognized him to be the famous husband of 'Pat Myers Arriving 1nHagerstown we telephoned our families The operator who handled our call was Joyce Kline After a short chat with Joyce she told us that Glendora Hart was also employed there We passed the farms of Robert Yeakle and John Blair as we drove home These people have stayed near Clear Spring and are contributing much in the production of food for our country As Barbara and Ireminisce me realize we have met allof our class mates exceptB1ll Suffecool who is associatedwith the FBIas a morgue attendant Looking back over our vacation we realize that it has recalled fond memories of our school days memories that are never to be forgotten Betty Trumpower Barbara Tedr1 ck cattle for their stock farm, located near Clear, Spring.
