CLASS PROPHECY It is a beautiful spring day in 1959.The trees are bursting into blossom.High in the trees the birds are chirping their welcoming song to the season.Their joyous melody floats through the open win- dow of a building which we recognize as Victor Products.A man is sprawled in an easy chair having been lulled to sleep by the cheer- ful ditty of the birds. On the office door in bold letters we see written, hiwood M.Faith,manager.At his elbow lies a magazine with a cover showing an attractive girl with a charming smile which we recognize as Mary Lou Eword.Mary Lou gained her position as cover girl by advertising for Colgates. The sight of this former class- mate brings back fond recollections of his graduating class of '49.. He wonders what paths of life they have taken and in his dreams he pictures them as a success in their chosen ambitions. In his dreams Elwood is carried to Martin's airy ,owned and operated by Keefer Martin. His daily routine has been interrupted by a tour, of an agriculture class, through his dairy barn and milk bottling plant. The tour has been arranged by insturctor John Seibert who believes that the best form of education is in seeing the actual operation of a dairy farm. The high light of the tour is a milk test- ing demonstration given by Robert Moore. He is assisted in his de- monstration by his wife, the former Peggy Turner, who acquired her knowledge in this field from her Home Ec. course in school. As they are leaving one of the boys calls Mr.Seibert's attention to the comer stone of the bam which bears the name of Phillip Mills.Im- mediately John recognizes this as one of his old classmates. Mr. Seibert then points out the attractive features of the house which also had been cons true ted by Phillip Mills. Then they hurry to the bus where a smiling red-haired driver awqits them. The driver is none other than Bob veritts who has settled down to a more peace- ful life after encountering many exciting experiences as a tractor trailer driver. As they near the school they hear the harmonious voices from the open window of the music room where Miss Patricia Shank, their music teacher,is preparing the students for the annual spring operetta. The English students with their teacher,Miss Dorothy Spielman, are taking part in this operetta which was written by Miss Spielman. Elwood is rudely awakened from his dreams by the persistant ring- ing of the telephone.Much to his disgust it is the wrong number and he is about to reprimand the operator when he recognizes the voice as that of Janice Bhives, who is an operator for the Bell Telephone Company.Elwood frequently recognizes the voices of the operators since Christine Hawbaker often handles his long distance calls.Alice King, who had previously worked at the exchange, has been transferred to the Bell Company at Baltimore. After this interruption Elwood who is exhausted from the hubbub of the office dreams of his vacation which he plans to spen at The Corker Hunting and Fishing Loage which has be U.
