Not shown: Mrs. Lewis, Historiang Mrs. Bock, Publicity Chairman, Mrs. Figg, Frosh Rep. . . 75. 71. 77cvzeozz'- Two years ago, in the fall of 1955, a small group of parents left the joint high school-elementary school P.T.A. and formed a single organization for the high school. There were a number of reasons for this. The membership of the original P.T.A. was composed predominantly of mothers of grade school children, so naturally interest and projects were centered there. This small group of high school parents thought that the high school should receive equal attention and so formed the present specialized unit. Mrs. Randall Wilcox was elected to be the first president of the high school P.T.A. A membership drive was started immediately, a prize of 810.00 to go to the class who had the highest parental membership. The number almost tripled from what it had originally been, and the Junior class of '56 won the prize. The primary function of the P.T.A. was to promote harmony and better under- standing between adults and youths. Teachers, parents, and students all attended meetings. Panels and student speakers presented the views of teen-agers. Faculty members explained the mysterious working of the school. Mrs. Wilcox did such an able job as president the first year that she was again elected to that office. However, Mrs. Wilfred Covey, first vice president, assumed that position when the Wilcox's moved from Lakeport. The P.T.A. has done a great deal of good for the high school. Members of the P.T.A. chaperone at all school dances and on such school functions as rooter's buses to other towns. The members of the P.T.A. have pledged their services to the students at the high school whenever they might be needed, to promoting a better understanding between the youth and adult of today. 096 i Nw' -ww' ' .l ' VAX of X 1. Kalfsbeek, D, Marschall, i . ,l?56 .league THE 1956 FOOTBALL SEASON Making history for CLUH, the 1956 Cardinal football team swept through an undefeated season, captured the Northwestern League Championship, and rein- stalled a fighting heart to Cardinal athletics. Our new coach, ,lim Fairchild, and three weeks of rigorous training readied 4-3 eager footballers for their first encounter, the Calistoga Wildcats. Against the Wildcats, fleet-footed Wayne Pyzer intercepted a pass and raced 65 yards for our first touchdown. Delaney Nutt carried the ball over for our final touchdown. Already our outstanding line was showing its power: and Tom Renfro, Henry Marschall, and Bob Moranda were standouts in that line performance. Game score: CLUH 19, Calistoga 7. For our first home game Cloverdale brought a squad lacking in reserve strength. Coach Fairchild cleared the bench as Lakeport's team rolled up 46 points to Cloverdale's 0. Harry Whitlock scored twice and kicked four conversions. Also sharing in touchdown honors were John Goodwin, Gordon Nutt, Delaney Nutt, Donn Marschall, and Cliff Eaton. Whitewashing the St. Helena Saints 45 to 0, the Cards were terrific both on offense and defense. Leading the scoring parade was Delaney Nutt, Wayne Pyzer, Donn Marschall, and Deake Lyndall. Whitlock's educated toe kicked up three more conversion points. League play opened against Willits High. Meeting a bigger squad, and one with, unorthodox formations, the Cards had to register a hard, determined effort to emerge the victor. The 14--6 score conceals the tremendous yardage the Cards had to pile up to overcome game breaks against them. Pyzer and Eaton divided touchdown honors for CLUH. The Kelseyville lndians, playing their first ll-man game, brought a hard-playing team to battle the Cards. Experience and hard play won out for CLUH, 25-6. Our game of the season was the battle for the championship with Fort Bragg, who we had never before beaten. On a sloppy field, Delaney Nutt scored three touchdowns, and Pyzer scored one. ln the 27-0 victory, the entire line did their best job of the year. This game also marked some outstanding defensive backfield play by Goodwin, Eaton, and Whitlock. With the Championship settled, the Cards put their undefeated season record on the block in a post season game with the also undefeated Berkeley Sophomores, who were surprised and dismayed at their first loss-33-0. And so the best football season for CLUH came to an end. Playing their final game were seniors Marcus Anderson, Cliff Eaton, Deake Lyndall, Donn Marschall, Delaney Nutt, Tom Renfro, and Harry Whitlock. Under the direction of Coach Don Clare, the '56 baseball team played hard through a rough season, but remained at the bottom in the league. Graduation took five seniors from the team. Six of the '56 team turned out for ,57 practice, and were joined by 20 new players. Coach Fairchild directed practice which was hindered throughout by rain. This was the last year for CLUH in the North Western League Big Four. The league has been dying for lack of members for some time. Beginning with the fall of 1957, we will be members in the North Bay League, Section 3. We will play a regular schedule in football and basketball. Since the North Bay League plays baseball games on Tuesdays and Fridays after school, the travel distance will pre- vent CLUH from playing a regular baseball schedule. We hope to continue playing our natural rivals: Upper Lake, Kelseyville, and Lower Lake. f43 -Q? ax Back row: B. Goodwin, R. Williams P. Marschall, K. Williams, R. Sneed B. Goodwin, M. Colton, T.
