HERB B TLER U MIKE FREEMAN NEVEL LYONS BOB McNE ILL BOB STONE BOB TOLTON DON LANGE DEAKE LYNDALL FOOTBALL SUMMAR The 1954 Football season for C.L.U.H. got under way this year when the Cards lost a hard-fought ball game to a more experienced team at Calistoga, with Chantler making the touchdown for the Cardinals receiving a long pass from Timothy. The Cardinals won their first home game of the season defeating Cloverdale, It was an evenly matched game and one of the best played games of the year. Chantler scored the touchdown for Lakeport and also kicked for the extra point, Clear Lake marched on to St. Helena where they encountered a much larger and tougher football team. The Cards played a good ball game but were outweighed by the other team. Playing their third and last game away from home, the Cards got off to a slow start with Willits scoring twice in the first 3 minutes of the first quarter. Lakeport scored twice in the second half when Stone carried it across once and Whitlock making the other tally on a quarter- back sneak. C.L.U.H. was defeated by Half Moon Bay in the second home game of the season. It was very well played by both teams with Lyons and Marschall making the touchdowns and Chantler passing to Marschall for the extra point. The Fort Bragg Wolverines defeated the C.L.U.H. Cardinals in the third and last home game of the season. The Wolverines were big and fast and proved to be the better team. Having postponed the game on Armistice Day because of a flooded field this regularly scheduled home game was played at Upper Lake the following week. It was a nip and tuck battle all the way with the Cards threatening twice but never pushing it over. The Cougars scored in the fourth quarter with iust a few minutes to play but missed the extra point. Seniors completing their last football game for C.L.U.H. were: Nevel Lyons, Gene Chantler, Venn Marschall, lrl Rickabaugh, Bob McNeill, Fritz Budde. BOB BOCK HARRY WHlTLOCK

BASKETBALL SCORES BASKETBALL SUMMARY The Clear Lake Union High School basketball team began to take shape with the tournament held at Lakeport the first weekend in December. With only one varsity letterman remaining from the previous year and helped by three B's moving up to the A squad, our team entered the tournament as complete dark horses. Calistoga, Middletown, Lower Lake, Kelseyville, Upper Lake, and Lakeport com- prised the teams playing. To the amazement of all, the boys won every game played and won the championship of the Lakeport invitational tournament. The following week the team was invited to play in the Middletown tournament, which they won by defeating first Lower Lake, then Kelseyville, and then Lower Lake again. Rod Williams, first string guard for the Cards, was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. More practice followed.
