B BASKETBALL TEAM Front row left to right R Brumm W McNally J Ray J Hull G Behnke P Mrlls Mfddle row A Cle eland J Stedman B Gles R Delaney C Marschall W Young Back ro D Kmball R Thompson D Bullard E Huck feldt Coach Proulx 15 fgzzsieffai At the start of the season there were about thlrty boys out for the team but durmg the season fifteen of these boys dropped leavlng fnfteen boys to frnrsh the season The cage season of the C L U H B team started out wrth a bang when they defeated Boon vrlle In a home game As the season progressed the boys were nerther the underdogs nor the top leaders but they held theur own The hlghlught of the season was focused on the Uklah game In the frrst few seconds of play Robert Brumm got the tlp off and macle a beautiful lay In for two points From then on the game was touch and go After Lakeport scored Uklah came right back and put rt through the hoop for their two points At the end of the flrst quarter the score was l2 to lO In Lakeport s favor At the half Lakeport stall led by a margnn of one pount 22 to 21 Durung the thurd quarter both teams collected ll points maklng the score 33 to 32 but durlng the fourth quarter Ukrah dropped behind to a score of 37 to 43 There was plenty of actron all through the game for the rooters were shoutlng therr best and the crowd was on nts feet most of the tume whuch showed there was plenty of excutement On February 24 there was a tournament played at the C L U H gym and Lakeport proved to be the top team of the county Lakeport played their furst game wlth Upper Lake and won by a score of 44 to 26 The second game played with Kelseyvrlle was won by a score of 36 to T9 The team received a very pretty trophy which was presented to Jlmmy Hlll the captarn of the team The cage season was very good with T4 games won and 4 games lost The four top scorers of the season were Wallace McNally wuth T93 Jlmmy Hull wuth l78 Robert Brumm with l36 and Phrllp Malls wrth T36 Even though the Northwestern League was not won the players learned new and better ways to play basketball and wlll be expected to perform better rn the comrng years 33 , ':. ,. ,.,.',, ,.'.' :.v ,. ,.i,. ,. ,, , w:.i ,. ,, ,. - PP 97 I , . ..., . , . r 1 . . .,, , . . , I , I I 1 , - 1 , . : , , , . 1
