MASS HISIIIIIY The years have passed, and now as seniors we Sit and reminisce of our Sghgol days. Remember how we entered the lst grade with our proud mothers holding our hands ? Why, we were almost growng--just think, we were going to school! Mrs, Gulley welcomed us, We felt we already knew her because she had taught most of our brothers and sisters. Miss Massey, the other first grade teacher, was new, but soon, we knew her well. The years in grammar school passed quickly, What fun we had! But to be in High School was our great ambition! Just think, we didn't have to sit in the same room all day, but could change classes. And our subjects had such high sounding names. Not arithmetic, but algebrag biology, instead of just plain science, and some even attempted a foreign lang- uage, Having entered the first grade with eighty-six, we were surprised when we had only forty-eight students to enter High School., I'm sure our teachers would have been happy had we lost a few more, Mr. Crutchfield, our home room teacher, never said much except Write l, 000 times, 'A minute lost can never be regained'. The next year Miss MacMillian took us in hand and tried to quiet us, but without much success. Our Junior year we had our play, THE CUSTEPCS LAST STAND, Giving a playwas more fun than we had realized. Our Junior-Senior Banquet was lots of work, but how proud we were when we finished it! Our theme, The Last Roundup , seemed very appropriate Now as seniors, we are about to leave Clayton High. The years have been too short. Our senior play was a grand success. The Juniors treated us to a fine banquet. With the comniencement march still ringing in our ears, we say goodbye, some with tears in our eyes but yet, with a feeling of accomplishment of a task well done. We hope that we leave to those who are to follow, the inspiration to do better than we have done. And we also hope to achieve our goal which is: To be a success in life, Anne Austin. . . Historian

Day by day the time has passed And brought us to the end, We are happy for its passing, But our hearts are sad within, Our tears are mingled with gladness and For our teachers, so kind and true, And without our new principal, What would we Seniors do? Fellow classmates, we can't forget you, For you have been so good to usg When our hearts with conflicts burdened, You were the ones who helped us most. love , On the top of the High School ladder, We have reached the highest peakg It is sad to leave you now, friends, But our goal, we have finally reached. In the future we will love you, And our hearts will be for youg For tomorrow you will be Seniors, With your careers starting anew. We had a dream the other night, That dream seemed, oh, so trueg We were walking back down the ladder, Helping all our friends--like you. Clayton High, we must leave you, And there is nothing more to say, Our love will shine as bright tomorrow As it shines for you today, Class Poet . . . Doris Daughtry I
