WALTER RlCl-lARD TAWES was born on December IO, l924 al Townsend. Delaware. He was inducled info fhe Enlisled Reserve Corps on December I4, I942, and info acfive service on May 29, I943. His miliiary occupafion specialily was cannoneer. He was discharged because of disabiliry on January 20, I944 and died on June 27, l948 af l'he Vererans' Adminislralion Hospilal, New Casfle Counry, Delaware, as a resulf of disabiliiy caused by his service in rhe Army. WILLIAM STANLEY TAWES was born on May 4, I923 a+ Townsend, Delaware. He was inducled info lhe Enlisled Reserve Corps on December I4, I942, and inio aclive service on May 29, I943. He sailed for Europe on Decem- ber IS, I944, spenl a shorl Time af Sudbury, England, was assigned lo OCS in France, and received his Second Lieulenanl gold bars on July I4, l945. He received lhe following decoralions and cilalionsz European African Middle Easlern Campaign, American Campaign Medals. World War ll Viclory Medal. He was relieved from aclive duly May 4, I946, bul was recalled 'ro duly Augusl 29, l95O. He was assigned fo Ear Easfern Command on June 25, l95l, his wedding anniversary. He died in combal on Oclober 5, l95l. The Purple Hearl was awarded poslhu- mously November 6, l95I. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Die+rich Tawes, anolher alumna of Claymonl High School, and a baby son, Waller Richard Tawes.
