..,'-Nu' ' , --as , Built in 1926 Clay Senior High School was named after Jeremiah Clay on whose farm the school was built. The first graduating class- that of 1930-consisted of twenty-one students. Among the extra-curricular activities were four literary societies, an annual staff, a newspaper staff, an orchestra and glee club, and a Student Council. Both the junior High and the Senior High were housed in the same building. In 1928, 1930, 1938, and 1940 wings were added to the school. The stadium was erected in 1947. In 1952 the present building was raised. The Junior High remained in the old building which became known as the Annex. After the building of other Junior High schools in the area, the Annex was used to supplement the main building's class- rooms. Over the years the curriculum has changed greatly. Today there are several courses offered that were rarely offered in public schools when the school was first built. Among them are Latin, Spanish, French, Chemistry, Physics, Machine Shop, Business Education, and the Vocational Courses. Today and in the years to come, Clay will have an increasing number of students grad- uating as it expands to meet the needs of the community. 15 aa- . .av l 1. ,- fi affix 1 , ' rrifff' . .. -Q U! 1--ew. It is only a convenient block of time, this thing we call a year. And, we label them with numbers. Our number is 1968, and 1968 promises to be the label attached to a year of strife. The strug- gle of Man is being fought not only on the battle- fields and in the nation's capitals, but in the minds of men as Well. The battle for advance- ment of civilization is being waged in laboratories around the world. The courts are legislating for the rights of all men. And, in the schools a small pod of educators are beginning to realize that you can not teach the future by looking into a rear view mirror. Perhaps this is good. Maybe all of this colossal conflict will endear this, our year, to future generations. But in the midst of such colossal efforts, the common things dear to life may be forgotten. Mlho will remember this as the year of the mini skirt? lfVill historians recall our hops, our games, our school mates? lfVho will remember 1968 as being important because of the little things that happened to us during its reign? Possibly no one. Yet, are not the ordinary things at the very core of life's most intriguing episodes? We, the Crystal staff, believe this is true, and because we believe this, we offer the 1968 Crystal as a record, as a log of the small stuff of life. May your memory's thirst be quenched herein, again, and yet again. --1 i .4-
