XX'e wish to express our gippreciiition to our vi'orthy advisor, Miss Lois Bickelliznipt, for her invaluable guidance in the prep- 2ll'1ll'lUi1 of this zinnuiil. JAMES o'B1uEN D e ri z 6 az iz 0 72 We, the members of the Crystal Staff, take great pleasure in dedicating this 1951 Cryrtal to our new but very able principal, james F. O'Brien. We, who were lucky enough to be under his authority in grammar school, know what a loyal friend and able administrator he is. His has been a steady upward climb until we, as members of the Clay High student body, can say we are very fortunate in having this young execu- tive as our leader now, and we hope for many years to come. It is with this dedication that we wish Mr. O'Brien all the Luck O' the Irish. 4 W? pf' I ly tlg r f X X k Hx ix N-'fxvi-grwaya X, yd X 1 , 'wa xx I CVQX Q- -5 f I' .nv S- Z' W 1,5 45' ' Q ,uv , 1 ' X ., .' ,ff Nz abehq ' 'ul-flla-.,nflll4 ,'59 i' K 1:25 QR fe ADM I N i5TRfXTlON Bmw' of Ealzzmtion F mv ,1,,. These were the recent graduates of Clay Elementary, jerusalem Township, Wynn, and Coy Schools-the embryo class of '52. To study or not to study was not the question then, but later on in the year' they found that their homeroom teachers, Miss Bickelhaupt, Mr. Needles, Mr. Schaller, and Miss Fulton, were united in their de- termination to educate all of them. This was quite a blow but most of them survived and went on to enter their second year. Class officers for the year were Tom Winkle, President, Don I-laack, Vice-Presidentg jeanette Hall, Secretary, and Ray Tuck, Treasurer. Representatives to the Student Council were Tom Gladieux, Ray Winterhalter, Charlotte Thomas, and Mary Schnee. Sophomores know that they belong The members of the class found their places in the various activities of the school. Under the united efforts of our school, class officers, Tom Winkle, President, Martha Breese, Vice-President, jeanette Martin, Secretary, and Ray Cedoz, Treasurer. We participated in many a school project and by collecting tax stamps were finally able to balance the budget. Home room teachers in our second year at Clay were Mr. McCabe, Mrs. Campbell, Miss jones, and Mr. Frey. Members of the Student Council were Tom Gladieux, Martha Breese, Ray Cedoz, Neal Nelson, Tom Winkle, and Ray Winterhalter. 33 fmioif CMU mei? In November, we gave our class play and the traditional Junior- Senior Prom in April. We Juniors also did our part in raising money for what is to be the biggest and best scoreboard in the G. N. C. Our class officers this year were Tom Winkle, President, Ray Cedoz, Vice-President, Jeanette Hall, Secretary, and Bill Moran, Treasurer. Representing us in the Student Council were Charles Tank, Gilberta Hof- bauer, Jeanette Martin, Ray Cedoz, Tom Gladieux, and Tom Winkle. One year away from graduation we would ordinarily be thinking about our future job or education. Times have changed since we were freshmen and Uncle Sam has new ideas for many of us. When the time comes for us to help, let us hope the Class of '52 will not be found wanting! 35 4 2 X.- Q3 opbomoife Mar A 'Wf ---Mf- i ---,,...............N....,. , ,, ., , . , N, ,,.,.......,,...,. 3 V F W A ip fl 7 .,1. Freshman Clary History On the fifth day of September, 146 freshmen entered a new and strange world, Clay High School. We had the same troubles and were laughed at just as every fresh- man class in history. But before we knew what had happened the terrihed look had left our eyes and we were walking down the halls with a big grin on our faces. We had just realized that we were a big part of this new world. Our officers were: President, Ronald Nusbaumg Vice-President, Eleanor Weiclr- mann, Secretary, Carol Rideoutg Treasurer, Drusilla Rossler. Our executive council consisted of the officers plus jim Brown, Mary Ann DeCant, jake Huss, Blair jones, Frank Kachmarik, Bob Lamb, Barbara Rouiller, Marilyn Sargeant, and Janet Wiemeyer. The members elected to Student Council were Dick Mitchell, George Russ, jean Schenk, Clayton Sherman, Ray St. John, and Eleanor Weichmann. Miss Bickelhaupt was class advisor. Her assistants were Mr. Coontz, Mr. Hepler, Mr. Huyck, Miss jones, and Miss Schwalbe. 40 QQUIZG T5 X L 1 XX JM X their I: Roy McCrosl4ey, Ray Cedoz, Bill Lewinski, Tum Winkle, Clayton Sherman, Bill Freshour Bob Bolton. lieu' J: George Russ, Don Leonhardt, Tom Gladieux, Bob Armstrong, Bill Lamb, Bob Wrllf, Raymond St. john, Mr. Morse, Run' S: Dick Mitchell, Elaine Carter, Jeanette Martin, Gilberta l-lofbauer, Patti Anspach, Virginia Gladeux, Barbara Nelson, Eleanor Wfeichman, jean Schenk. Again this year the paper was helped by the Student Council in the financial department, but we are proud to say that we were self-supporting. The paper this year set up a definite staff which was open to any member of the student body. NVQ-3 hope you all found just a little fun either working on the stahl or in reading what the staff wrote. The only project which the paper sponsored was the Toledo Blade Clinic. At these clinics the members who attended were given regular press cards. The staff met every other Thursday for the purpose of receiving assignments and discussing improvements for the next issue. 44 National may ociefy Members of the National Honor Society are elected by the faculty from the upper one-fourth of the class. The purchase of a new hass horn and new music greatly deflated the n0ne-t0o- large band fund so we raised money hy various concerts. Besides those, we gave our customary concerts at Clay High and Clay, Wynn, jerusalem, and Coy Elementary Schools. We marched in all the football games except the Genoa game, the Lucas County Fair, and in the Armistice Day Parade. We went to Bowling Green to see and hear the United States Marine Band and to Sylvania to see and hear the Bowling Green University Orchestra. 64 Roy McCroskey lgg Club !,, , . ... .. . .4l.tft'l.IUl !,ll.llI.1KQ'L'1'... ..,.,,, Bob Armstrong Seirelizry ,,,,.,,,.....,,, ,.,,,,A ,.,,.,,AAA P r itti Anspach Airimnzf SL'l'!'Fi'.I7'j ,.,.,,,, ,,,,,,,,, C onnie 'Horvatll Tre.1.rn1'w' ,,,,,A,.,A,.,, A,..,,A ,,,,.,, D i rrothy Fletcher Atiiafzfzl 'I'rer1,ilu'er.. ,,,,,,,,...,,,. Mrs. Mahoney The meetings of the G.A.A. are held the first and third Wednesday of each month. At these meetings we play the following: indoor, speedball, basketball, volleyball, and we also bowl. The main money mal-:ing project of this club is selling pencils which have the foot- ball schedule on and our initials G.A.A. We also sponsor dances after the basketball games. Witli the money that we make from these projects we buy something for the Physical Education Department. This year instead of having our annual initiation we started an annual recognition service which We hope the G.A.A. girls of the future will follow. Our loyal G.A.A. girls can be identified by the G.A.A. pins which most of them have purchased. The main event of the year is our annual Spring Banquet, in honor of the Seniors. At this banquet, a trophy is given to the girl best suited as Miss G.A.A. of the year. 67 '?f's'4 .H : A: V 'S v K X . J ,. sm ws, is 1 ti ff Q45-y 2r ' i-Tfgifg .ik if ' :wg '.
