The younger runners placed first in the Clay City Invitational, the Cisne Invitational, and the Jr. Midland Trail Conference Tourney. The more experienced varsity harriers posted a winning record, but did not fare quite as well in the tournaments. Phillip Leib , a fifth grader, paced the Pee Wee’s 11-0 season, and he also set a new school record. Coach Dan Patridge is expectantly looking ahead to bigger and better things. Young team preps for next season This year’s grade school baseball team had a fairly even season with a 3-6 overall record. The team will graduate only two of their 28 players. The top five hitters all came from the seventh grade with top batter being Shane Carder. We will miss the all-round play of Stan Royer, who moved to Effingham. He can do it all,” said Coach Patridge. We expect to be a contender in the conference race next year, which has not happened since 1972,” concluded Patridge. Varsity players boast 9-6 record, display enthusiasm, improvement The 1978 varsity volleyball team showed a complete revival from last season. After finishing a winless 1977 season, the Wolfgals got on track and produced an impressive 9-6 record. Coach Ausbrook said that she hates to lose her three starting seniors from this year’s squad. The three who will leave are Teresa Wciler, Nancy Bryan, and Ronda Cochran. However, there will be several returning underclassmen who saw varsity action and will form a strong base for next year’s team. I really enjoyed this season ’ commented Coach Shirley Ausbrook, although the girls had a few morale problems.” The girls arc already talking about next year’s season and their expectations. a.
