Principal’s Message Many students, upon completing twelve years of public schooling, feel they have finished; and finished they have with that phase of their lives. I want to remind you, the class of 1974, that the word commencement means the act or time of a beginning. As you begin your journey into the brave, new world, perhaps you can reflect upon the good and bad times you experienced at the Dunkard Creek Naval Academy. In all seriousness, we have had some very good times together and 1 want to thank each one of you for your kindness towards me. My biggest hope is that perhaps we have had a positive affect on you in your preparation to do what you have to do to survive in the business of life. 3

Foreword A faucet is the beginning of a long and endless cycle. It is the source of a single drop of fresh water. This droplet joins with other droplets in an attempt to maintain life. The droplet continually joined by others becomes first a small trickling stream, then a grand flowing river which eventually flows into the salty oblivion of an ocean. The droplet remains in this saline solution until one day it finally evaporates into the atmosphere. It floats freely back over land until it becomes too heavy and falls. After resting in a reservoir it travels through dark water pipes until again it sees the light of day as it again plummets from the faucet. Now, if you compare the drop of water coming out of the faucet to a student graduating from Clay-Battelle High School, you will find an interesting analogy. When the student graduates, he is joined by more and more graduates from other high schools, It is almost impossible for one lowly student to maintain his identity and individuality in his struggle for life. Competition is tough. After all that he ends life exactly the way he started it. We can't help but ask ourselves then, What is the point? Does life have any meaning?” If we contribute a significant part of our lives to a good cause and if we dedicate our lives to the improvement of mankind, then we must be worth more than those drops of water. 2
