D e a r D i a r y Dear Diary: ' July l8, 1963 As I sit here tonight writing to you, memories of my dear old classmates of Clay-Battelle High School come back to me. Many years have passed since then, but I bet they are all promi- nent people in the world of today. I wonder if Huberta Knight would want to accompany me in a flight back home to see our friends. You see we both joined the W.A.F.'s. Dear Diary: July 19, 1963 It is a beautiful day so homeward I go. Arriving home the Hrst person I went to see was one of my best friends, Colleen Haught Wade. Of course she is happily married, but a career woman too. She sells Esso gasoline at her husband's filling station. We decided to go to a new night club in town that night, where the star singer was going to be Johnny Bill Raber. The chorus line had Arleen Haught, Patty Price. and Norma Jane Simpson. That wonderful Wayne Tennant Jr., was master of ceremonies. Dear Diary: July 20, l963 The next morning I needed a doctor and who do you suppose I found in the office, Jean Main as receptionist, Helen Jones as nurse, and Stuart Strosnider as doctor. I then decided I didn't feel so sick and went on my way to buy a new frock at Dudash's Womens' Apparel. The name sounded familiar. After entering I saw the manager was our Mary Margaret. Deciding it was time for lunch I started looking for a restaurant. Stiles' Restaurant looked neat so inward I went, where to my amazement I saw Eddie and Raymond as head chefs, while Susan Tennant, a cute little waitress, served the food. At the table beside me I noticed a nice looking gent and then I remembered Jim Austin. Upon inquiring his profession I found he was a banker. A movie, that would be relaxing. The picture I noticed, was Good Old Days, Qfitting titlel. After buying my ticket from Nelle Howard and being ushered down the aisle by Raymond Brewer, I relaxed and enjoyed the picture. In the newsreel I learned that Lila Owens had just won the world's longest hot rod race. The comedy to my surprise was written by Leonard Moore. The stars -of the main feature were astonishing Harriet Tuttle and Glenn Stiles. The picture was produced by Wanda Forquer and the art work was done by Carl Hennen. I also saw a new Frankenstein skit with Henry Leary as the new Frankenstein. After the mfovie I hailed a taxi to take me to the hotel where I was staying. The taxi driver was none other than Bob Johnson. Oh, yes, while coming home I noticed that Eugene Kirby owns a garage. There to hill up your tank was Don Sine and to clean your windshield, Lou Downey. While reading the news this evening, I noticed that Jo Ann Core is a famous author and has just published a new book. Jim Ross Tennant is now playing ball with the Cleveland Indians, and Fred Park is doing very well as a general in the army. Just then the telephone rang and I went to answer. The operators voice sounded famil- iar. I asked her name and found it was Freeda Ammons. She then connected me with a more masculine voice that I recognized as Jack Yost. He invited me to a party at his ranch. I had to decline the invitation because the next day was Sunday and I wanted to go to church. While talking to Jack, I asked if he had heard of any of our school friends. He replied that he had some of them employed. Upon inquiring, I found that Mack King was the best bull fighter ever seen: as I remember Mack, he should be good at lighting bull, since he threw so much of it in school. Employed was Monta Jo Byrd to feed his chickens, Jo Ann Chisler to water the pigs, Cathern Lemley to cook his meals and Velda Tennant to drive his tractor. Dear Diary: July 21. 1963 I went to bed early so I could get up and go to church. Upon my arrival I was surprised to see a woman pastor who to my great surprise was Shirley Hawkins. Singing in the choir were Lola Cumberledge, Dolly Eddy, Ellen Tennant, and Sue Wilson, under the direction of David Hall. Dear Diary: July 22. 1963 I have returned home now and have been looking over my experiences which you con- tain. l know I can never forget them and the wonderful time I spent while searching for my old school friends.
