Many years have passed since then, but I bet they are all promi- nent people in the world of today. I wonder if Huberta Knight would want to accompany me in a flight back home to see our friends. You see we both joined the W.A.F.'s. Dear Diary: July 19, 1963 It is a beautiful day so homeward I go. Arriving home the Hrst person I went to see was one of my best friends, Colleen Haught Wade. Of course she is happily married, but a career woman too. She sells Esso gasoline at her husband's filling station. We decided to go to a new night club in town that night, where the star singer was going to be Johnny Bill Raber. The chorus line had Arleen Haught, Patty Price. and Norma Jane Simpson. That wonderful Wayne Tennant Jr., was master of ceremonies. Dear Diary: July 20, l963 The next morning I needed a doctor and who do you suppose I found in the office, Jean Main as receptionist, Helen Jones as nurse, and Stuart Strosnider as doctor. I then decided I didn't feel so sick and went on my way to buy a new frock at Dudash's Womens' Apparel. The name sounded familiar. After entering I saw the manager was our Mary Margaret. Deciding it was time for lunch I started looking for a restaurant. Stiles' Restaurant looked neat so inward I went, where to my amazement I saw Eddie and Raymond as head chefs, while Susan Tennant, a cute little waitress, served the food. At the table beside me I noticed a nice looking gent and then I remembered Jim Austin. Upon inquiring his profession I found he was a banker. A movie, that would be relaxing. The picture I noticed, was Good Old Days, Qfitting titlel. After buying my ticket from Nelle Howard and being ushered down the aisle by Raymond Brewer, I relaxed and enjoyed the picture. In the newsreel I learned that Lila Owens had just won the world's longest hot rod race. The comedy to my surprise was written by Leonard Moore. The stars -of the main feature were astonishing Harriet Tuttle and Glenn Stiles. The picture was produced by Wanda Forquer and the art work was done by Carl Hennen. I also saw a new Frankenstein skit with Henry Leary as the new Frankenstein. After the mfovie I hailed a taxi to take me to the hotel where I was staying. The taxi driver was none other than Bob Johnson. Oh, yes, while coming home I noticed that Eugene Kirby owns a garage. There to hill up your tank was Don Sine and to clean your windshield, Lou Downey. While reading the news this evening, I noticed that Jo Ann Core is a famous author and has just published a new book. Jim Ross Tennant is now playing ball with the Cleveland Indians, and Fred Park is doing very well as a general in the army. Just then the telephone rang and I went to answer. The operators voice sounded famil- iar. I asked her name and found it was Freeda Ammons. She then connected me with a more masculine voice that I recognized as Jack Yost. He invited me to a party at his ranch. I had to decline the invitation because the next day was Sunday and I wanted to go to church. While talking to Jack, I asked if he had heard of any of our school friends. He replied that he had some of them employed. Upon inquiring, I found that Mack King was the best bull fighter ever seen: as I remember Mack, he should be good at lighting bull, since he threw so much of it in school. Employed was Monta Jo Byrd to feed his chickens, Jo Ann Chisler to water the pigs, Cathern Lemley to cook his meals and Velda Tennant to drive his tractor. Dear Diary: July 21. 1963 I went to bed early so I could get up and go to church. Upon my arrival I was surprised to see a woman pastor who to my great surprise was Shirley Hawkins. Singing in the choir were Lola Cumberledge, Dolly Eddy, Ellen Tennant, and Sue Wilson, under the direction of David Hall. Dear Diary: July 22. 1963 I have returned home now and have been looking over my experiences which you con- tain. l know I can never forget them and the wonderful time I spent while searching for my old school friends. The group was organized at first to get more use out of the projector available and audio- visual aids that are adaptable to organizations and classes. From this small beginning the interest and attention of the students and faculty have grown until n-ow it is the goal to have each class or department in the school represented. Membership in the club gives the student the opportunity to qualify as a projector oper- ator. Square Dance Club OFFICERS President .... ..-..... , . ..... -. .... The purpose of this club is used to promote dancing as an activity for the purpose of parties and at noon. Since completing most of our square dances, we are now working to teach modern and ballroom dancing. We are now starting with the fox-trot, and hope to go to the waltz, two-step, polka and rumba. The square dance has raised enough money to buy most of the records that are now avail- able to the school. forty-nine :nu Q4 W-ws ?lf iw' ix 1,9 ' ..-f ik- 'V- . 1 First row: Rita Mae 'l'uttle. Football Season For 1953 The Clay-Battelle gridiron warriors faced tough opposition this season with a record showing eight losses and two victories for the season. Our two victories were wins over Tunnelton, a newcomer to our schedule, and Fairview a traditional foe that was defeated in our invasion of their gridiron. Triumphant foes included Fairview who won over the Mason-ites in a struggle under the lights at Brave, Pa, Other victors over the Blue and Gray were Rivesville, Farmington Monongah, Barrackville, St. Francis, Kingwood, and Cameron. hfty-two Basketball Summary Coach Masons basketball squad was plagued all season by a jinx as they won only one game out of twenty played during the regular season. The one win came early in the season when the Alumni bowed by a 52-37 score. In both contests with Smithheld elusive victory seemed near for the Cee-Bees but the final whistle found the Masonites on the losing end of the score. In the sectional tourney competition at Fairmont. the Blue and Gray drew Farmington as their opponent and left the floor with the Farmers victorious. SENIOR HIGH BASKIS'llBAl,l. Junior High Summary The junior high basketball squad. coached by Darrold Sisler. traveled a rugged road sim- ilar to the one followed by the varsity. l,ady Fortune apparently refused to smile upon the plebes as only one contest was Won. this being at the expense of the visiting Wadestown Junior High Quintet, ln the sectional tournament the junior high boys again found themselves company to the varsity since they drew Farmington as their opponent and were also defeated by the junior Farmers. The eighth grade boys, some of whom were junior high squad players. made a good record in the eighth grade tournament held at Daybrook, March 5, 6, and 7. These boys left the tournament as runners up, being defeated by a team from Barraclxville, fifty-font Senior High Cheerleaders Ann Smith, Kenneth Delaney, Maxine Vincent Joan Stewart, Nancy Lemley, Elizmberh Tennant Junior High Cheerleaders fifty-five Autogxjaphs k , -H 4 1 , . , N V 11 1 V X x I I . mwfr Y far ir-1 1 , - P55 ,3.
