CDR James A. Reid, USN Born July 12, 1947 in Boston, Mas- sachusetts, Commander Reid enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1964. Admitted to the U.S.Naval Academy the following year, he graduated and was commis- sioned in 1969. Subsequent assignments at sea were as First Lieutenant and Com- bat Information Center Officer in USS RICHARD L. PAGE QFFG-51, Auxilia- ries Officer in USS ENTERPRISE QCVN-655, Operations Officer in USS SOUTH CAROLINA QCGN-375, As- sistant Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group EIGHT, Executive Officer in USS CONYNGHAM QDDG-173 and Flag Secretary on the staff of Command- er Second Fleet and Commander Strik- ing Fleet Atlantic. Commander Reid as- sumed command of USS CLAUDE V. RICKETTS, QDDG-55 on 28 March 1988. Shore assignments encompassed duty as a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor at the University of Colorado, where he also earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, and duty on the staff of Commander, Na- val Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Among his service awards are the Meri- torious Service Medal, Navy Commen- dation Medal, the Navy Unit Commen- dation, two Meritorious Unit Commen- dations and the Battle E Ribbon. Com- mander Reid is married to the former Diane Kohler of Virginia Beach, Virgin- ia. They and their son Devin live in Ches- apeake, Virginia.
