These are the yean of wistful eyed beings with tender dreams, but youth is brutal as well as tender, and youth is reality as well as a dream. It is our hope that we have preserved a portion of these dreams and some of this reality in our 1967 edition of the Tiger Claw. For as a flower blooms and fades and blows away and blooms again, according to the season; in like manner youth exists from spring to spring-To Everything There Is A Time. For six girls to twirl together much coordination and cooperation are required from each girl. Twirling is something one has to work at, and to become a good twirler takes lots and lots of practice. During the summer the girls also attend a twirling camp to learn new routines for the up-coming year. Cheerleading requires not only hours of practice and discipline, but also skill and an ability id work with others. Toward the end of each school year, our cheerleaders are selected by judges. The judging is based on poise, coordination, overall ap- pearance, skill, and conformity with the group. After the girls are chosen, a cheerleading clinic is attended in the summer at East Texas State University. There, the girls learn new yells, pom pom routines, skits, stunts, and ideas to help boost school spirit. This year, in the rugged compe- tition at the clinic, the girls won a 3rd place and an Honor- able Mention. 1966-67 Sfuutwv Watem, Oiqiyn, W Jutu i-l-lead CAe d cul i Pep QquCt L OFFICERS President--------------- Mildred Proctor Vice-President ------- Betty Linton Co-Captains---------------- Sherry Barber Helen Hauseler Kay Barton Brenda Conyers The Pep Squad is one of the most active organizations in the school, es- pecially during football season. The score was 6-0 as WARD’S extra point attempt was blocked. Neither team scored in the remainder of the first half. In the 3rd quarter, LAWSON covered his second RAIDER fumble for the night. CHARLES WOOTEN and BALLEW advanced to the RAIDER 5, where WARD kicked a field goal making the score 9-0. The TIGERS scored again as soon as they re- covered the ball. A 56 yard BALLEW to CRAWFORD pass, plus WARD'S extra point raised the score to 16-0 for the TIGERS. NEIL KING Sophomore Center MIKE KELLAM Sophomore Halfback Clarksville rushed into this game with a climactic 74 yard drive with CHARLES WOOTEN scrambling the final 33 yards to pay dirt. WARD'S point attempt was good. On the first play of the second period, quarterback DAVID BALLEW again crossed the goal line only to be called back by a 15 yard pen- alty. Four plays later, WARD split the uprights with a 36 yard field goal making the score 10-0 at the half. The third T.D. came after a bad Commerce punt which the TIGERS recovered on the Commerce 24. After picking up 2 first downs CHARLES WOOTEN made the final plunge from 4 yards out. The final TIGER score was made on a 44 yard pass from quarterback JERRY MORRIS to halfback TERRY. WARD made good the PAT. with 27 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Cooper, booting a high spiral punt and, thinking the ball dead, was very much surprised when halfback MARK TERRY scooped it up before the whistle blew and dashed 51 yards before he was stopped. Six plays later, a BALLEW to TERRY pass made the score 6-0. Due to a BULLDOG fumble, Clarksville again took over the ball. CHARLES WOOTEN made the second T.D. as he rambled the final 30 yards to pay dirt. An attempted pass for the conversion failed and the score stood 12-0 at the half. The third quarter was dominated by the defensive squads. Four carries by McGUIRE pushed the score up to 18-0, and a 33 yard scamper by CRAWFORD made the final score 24-0. The first score came as a climax to a 69 yard drive, which began with the opening kickoff of the 3rd period. Carried by BALLEW, TERRY, CRAWFORD, and McGUIRE moved the ball to the 10 yard line, where CHARLES WOOTEN raced over the goal making the score 6-0. Thanks to a blocked REBEL punt, the TIGERS again took over on the REBEL 10 yard line. WOOTEN again placed the 6 points on the board making the final score 12-0. Clarksville fans went wild when Quarterback DAVID BALLEW grabbed the opening kick off and ran 80 yards for a T. D. only to be called back on a technicality. This was the first of three touchdowns called back for rule infractions. The second callback was on a 40 yard pass from BALLEW to TERRY in the second quarter. And the third was another punt return by BALLEW, also in the second quarter. The TIGERS finally got an official touchdown late in the second quar- ter, when a Mt. Vernon punt was blocked, leaving the TIGERS with the ball on the Mt. Vernon 38. They drove to the Mt. Vernon 1 yard line and CRAWFORD plunged over for the T.D. WARD booted the extra point making a half time score of 7-0. In the 3rd period, the TIGERS drove 65 yards and ended with a 15 yard touchdown pass from BALLEW to TERRY. WARD'S PAT. was good and the lead was now 14-0. The last score came at the end of a 51 yard drive with BAL- LEW skirting right end for the final 6 points. LARRY TACKETT Senior Halfback 1 Year Letterman The TIGERS started their bi-district game in the right spirits by moving the ball all the way to pay-dirt as soon as they took possession of the ball. The T. D. climaxed a 59 yd. drive and a pass from BALLEW to STEWART, who was standing alone in the end zone. WARD supplied the extra point making the TIGER'S first and last score. Neither team threatened in the third period as both teams were locked in a defensive entanglement. There was 6:54 left in the final period before either team threatened again. The JACKETS set up their two final scores with two pass interceptions. The TIGERS fought desperately the entire game, but they were out-weighed by the opponents, and soon tired out under the heavy onslaught. This game ended the TIGER'S '66 season. It was a good season with only two losses. C. H. I wondered why It left familiar things behind. A hand caught mine... I paid no mind. The stranger never once did say Just what had brought him on my way. On we went, and some afraid, 1 wished I hadn't come but stayed. All the friends that 1 once knew Took a road named Goodbye too. There were no two roads the same Though all were called Goodbye by name. The road went on; we went on too. And I was sad, for then I knew That never could I be the same Having walked down Goodbye Lane. And thought I couldn't understand We walked on hand in hand We said no words, but just walked on I thought of things now past and gone. I thought of those I'd come to know, Just knowing them had helped me so. I thought of things, of tears I'd shed, Those same things now brought smiles instead. The tasks I'd done, those left to do, 1 wondered how I'd ever make it through When somethings inside seemed to say, The best you can from day to day. ” The way was rough; 1 knew the score. It never ends; there's always more. But now I know that all in all Each thing in its won place will fall. I thought of all the happy days. The sad ones now just seemed a haze. And in a flash I came to see How much the past had meant to me. We walked along - I wondered where The future led and what was there. The path still echoed from behind It was its and it was mine. But in my heart was a fear And in my eyes a shining tear; Yet on my face there was a smile, And we walked forward all the while. I walked along the road Goodbye. I looked back once... I heaved a sigh. Then I remembered at my side - My silent, but my constant guide. The strangers' hand I felt in mine 1 looked into his face this time. I asked his name - he turned just so. He smiled and said, I'm called Hello. Qtodcyi CUmS 0 1 967 These students held the honor of being the Top Ten in their graduating class.
