SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Our class of 1953 Senrors began way back rn 1941 when we grabbed our book satchels and started off to the varrous grade schools 1-lurre Salhs and Catholrc We set about learn1ng the mysterres of lrfe and engagrng 1n operettas and ball games rn whrch we were frghtrng rrvals untrl we hrt rumor hxgh It was then that we drscoverecl that we were truely the underdogs and set about rn a sp1r1t of umty that lasted on through our hrgh school days As the years unfolded we found many happy experrences rn store for us Thrs thrng called Dogpatch was new and thrrllrng and we succeeded rn havrng our candrdates for Darsy Mae and L 11 Abner elected all three years These were Sue Patterson and I D Mrddlebrook Rose Farmer and lames Hen son and Shrrley Blackard and Charles Cal lahan Our nrnth grade year was full of great excrternent We were prrvrleged to select our own leaders be1ng the frrst nrnth grade class ever to elect offrcers Charles Martrn served as presrdent Iane Kolb as vrce presr dent Shrrley Blackard as secretary and Wendell Fhnt as reporter Sue Patterson was our homecomrng mard and we took on the task of buxldrng our frrst float We added our brt of school spmt by Shrrley Blackard servmg as a cheerleader As graduatron t1me approached we found that Clara lean Hrnson and Charles Martrn tred for Valedrc tory honors wrth Sue Patterson Carolyn Mrracle Phyllrs Sears and Barbara Ann Bean servrng as Salutatorrans Our gradua tron program was a two act play and we closed our rumor hrgh days by the tradrtronal trrp to Petlt lean For our sophomore year our offrcers were lane Kolb presrdent Ragon Thompson vrce presrdent Charles Martrn secretary Sue Pat terson reporter Our sponsors were Mrs Page Graham and Coach Metheny Sue Ann Sykes served as our football mard and Shmr ley Blackard was once agarn our cheerlead er We had several new addrtrons as Spadra lorned our class The year was clrmaxed by a return trrp to Petrt lean was untrl found the our head under the leadershrp of lane Kolb as presrdent Ragon Thompson as vrce presrdent and Shrrley Blackard as secretary Once aga1n Mrs Graham and Coach Metheny served as our sponsors Betty Ruth Nrchols was our foot ball mard and after many hours of hard work we were rewarded by w1nn1ng fust place on our float To change thrngs up a brt Ragon Thompson was elected as our cheerleader Our Junror play Dont Take My Penny dlrected by Mrs Allen G Hawkrns was a huge success and provrded us wrth ample funds to have one of the best We drdn I know what trouble we reach :Ll our Junror year and lunlor Senror Prom hangrng over We managed to survrve thrs year school A South Pacrfrc theme Wlfll twrnklrng stars moonlrght and hula grrls completed an evenrng never to be forgotten After long hours of study and lots of good trmes we frnally reached our goal that of be1ng SENIORS' lane Kolb and Shrrley Blackard retarned the OfflC9S of presrdent and secretary respectlvely and Bud Horne was elected to serve as vrce prsrdent Coach Metheny and Mr Bock were our sponsors Our football mard was Sue Patterson Iames Henson served our football team as captarn wrth cocaptarns Scooter Hays and lackre Roberts closely assrstrng hlm Our senlor play Beauty and the Beef was once aga1n dlrected by Mrs Hawkrns Plans were made for a tr1p to New Orleans soon after school Now at the close of these twelve years we want to thank all our teachers and frrends for helprng us to make them The Most Won derful Years of Our Lrves 16 Q I I . lunior-Senior Proms in the history of our high 1 f 1 ' I ll
