SENIOR CLASS HISTORY A small whistle was heard in the distance, and the little train called the Bomber Special was pulling out of the station with 18 passengers aboard. They were Dale Dohse, Bonnie Tierney, Patricia Bowers, Norma Cahill, Peggy Bolen, Linda Chapin, Darryl Didier, Pauline Brantlng, Patty Hansher, Vicki Spires, Connie Cook, Carol Zabava, Janis Church, Michael Shonsey, Larry Chapin, Gregory Burger, Donna Barnes, and Celinda Swedenburg. Mrs. Muriel Anderson taught us for two years. Mrs. Robert Baird took over as conductor in the first grade. We stopped to pick up Douglas Hudson, Alberta Stromberg, Junior Cuba, and DerilynBeck. Bonnie Tierney, Patricia Bowers, Linda Chapin, Carol Zabava, and Larry Chapin hopped off at different junctions on our way up the ladder of life. In second grade Marilyn Randall and David Zegar joined us, and Gregory Burger left us that year. The third grade brought us Margaret Herman, Leonard Zelasney, and Lynda Van Ostrand. We were sorry to lose Junior Cuba that year. Mrs. Muriel Anderson again taught us. Miss Lois Randall came into superiority in our fourth year. Dwayne Rice, Richard Kohl, Mary Ann Prososki, Eddie Sweet, Dana Little, and Paulette Kohl hopped on the Bomber Special to join us. Vicki Spires left us that same year. Chugging down the tracks in our fifth year, we gained Janet Wemhoff, Emilie Fergin, and Kathleen Kennedy, and lost Douglas Hudson. Miss Marie Zoucha taught. During the sixth grade, Mrs. Robert Strickland was our engineer. We were sorry to lose Leonard Zelasney that year. Mrs. Iva Stott brought us along our way in the seventh grade. We gained Mike Ferguson and Donnie Dush. Lynda Van Ostrand left us at the Polk junction. The Bomber Special was still going strong in our eighth year with Mrs. Caroline Craig serving as engineer. Arnold Kula, Chellah Weber, and Linda Ferguson became new passengers. Norma Cahill and Dwayne Rice stopped for greener pastures. High school years had finally begun for us in 1962. Beverly Fairbairn and Leonard Zelasney joined us; while at the same time we lost Peggy Bolen, who went to Omaha. Turquoise and white became our class colors; our flower, the white carnation; and our motto, Within Ourselves Lies Our Future. Beverly Fairbairn was President; Arnold Kula, Vice-President; and Margaret Herman, Secretary-Treasurer. We were happy to have Mr. Larry Crosley as sponsor for two years. The tenth grade saw the Bomber Special slowing down a bit to pick up LeAnn Meinecke, who came from Central City. We lost Chellah Weber that same year. Arnold Kula was President; Dana Little, Vice-President; and Celinda Swedenburg, Secretary-Treasurer. Our little train was really a bevy of excitement in our junior year. Emilie Fergin left us that year to find greener pastures, and Pat Gonsior hopped on at the Osceola junction to join our merry little group. We received our class rings from Jostens that year. We presented Boarding House Reach as our class play, which was very successful. Rendezvous of the Stars was our theme for our prom honoring the Seniors. It was a beautiful evening to be remembered always. Mr. James Eckerberg was our sponsor. Cindy Swedenburg was President; Marilyn Randall, Vice-President, and Margaret Herman, Secretary-Treasurer. Now there are 27 students ready to depart from the Bomber Special for the very last time. Mr. John Jones and Mrs. Marie Banks have conducted us in this year. We gained Mike Riggs from Idaho, but lost Donna Barnes, Dale Dohse, and LeAnn Meinecke. Mike Riggs was President; Paulette Kohl, Vice-President; and Pat Gonsior, Secretary-Treasurer. We had our Senior Class pictures taken at Lumbard-Leehinshy's in Grand Island. At Christmas we presented A Christmas for a Duchess. We ordered our announcements from Herf Jones. Finders Creepers was the name of our class play. On April 28, the Seniors left by Greyhound on a weekend tour of Colorado Springs for Sneak Day. On May 18, diplomas were handed out to the passengers of the Bomber Special , who left It for the very last time. TOOT I TOOT! 18
