FOOTBALLFOOTBALLFOOTBALLFOOTBALLFOOTBALLFOOTB 1981-82 season first for Coach Trautwein The 81-82 vorsity football ream starred out the seoson by winning their first five consecutive nonconference gomes. However, the ream met their first defeat when challenged by o tough Dononzo ream. This gome was followed by another heort-breaking defeat against Gormon on Clork's Homecoming. After these two major gomes, oil hopes of winning the Sunset Division title were destroyed. The following gomes ogoinst Volley ond Choporrol were shut-outs, ending the seoson on o sod note. The team finished with o 5-4 record, going without o loss for five gomes. The seoson opener wos o thriller, os the Chargers monoged to squeak out o 29-27 win over Zone Chompions. Western High School. In the second gome. Clark defeated o winless Dosic ream 14-6. Doth of Cork’s touchdowns were mode by senior running bock Rob Foresto. The Chorgers easily overcome the Eldorodo Sundevils. 17-7. in the first home gome of the seoson. Greg Peeples took the opening kick-off ond ron 85 yords to give the Chorgers on immediate heod start. Drod Chaddick mode o touchdown when he pounced on o loose boll in the end zone. This goal, along with Andre Vinson s 35-yord field goal, mode up the team's 17 points. The teom continued their winning streok with o 10-9 victory over Roncho. Junior Mark Dudenoke ond senior kicker Andre Vinson were the scorers of the gome, but o strong defense kept Roncho from gaining that one cruciol point. The following week. Los Vegos High School also felt the effects of the Chorgers' tough defense. Unoble to moke o point, Los Vegos went to the showers with o 22-0 loss. The first conference gome proved to be the Chorgers' first loss of the seoson. Dononzo took command in the second quarter, ond the Chorgers were never oble to roke the leod from the Oengols. The gome ended with o score of 6-25. marking Dononzo's first time to defeat Cork. On the following Homecoming Fridoy. Gormon cleaned up with o 9-28 victory ond eliminated Clark from the fight for the Sunset Division title. The final two gomes of the seoson were heortbreoking to fans ond ployers. Cork, unoble to score, fell to Choporrol 0-17 or Collis Srodium. An identical situation orose ogoinst Volley in the lost gome of the seoson. when o 0-27 loss dropped Cork's record to 0-4 in conference ploy. This yeor wos heod cooch Richard Troutwein's first yeor ot Cork High School. Coming from o winless Dosic High. Troutwein said it wos greot going 50. bur he wos somewhat disappointed with the outcome of the seoson. Troutwein commented on Kenny Clark's performance throughout the seoson ond stored that he wos the moinstoy for the defensive line. He also said Mike Dexter wos the most improved ployer on the teom. A quoliry of the teom rhot the cooch mentioned wos their ability to keep their composure when things got rough. This yeor Trourwein switched the offensive formation from Cork's troditionol veer to o T formorion. This helped to improve running. Cooch Troutwein summed up. It wos greot coaching this yeor. The kids really wonted to leorn ond ploy.
