DECA encourages future businessmen The Clark High School chapter of Distributive Education Clubs of Americo. or DECA os it is better known, is just one of mony school chapters that participates in this notion wide program. The purpose of DECA is to develop worthwhile skills in advertising. distribution, merchandising, job interviews, cosh register procedures, soles ond management in the business world. The doss, which was instructed by Mr. James Hoff-mon. focused on giving students the opportunity to experience the mony activities involved in the working world. Students could eorn school credits through DECA by enrolling in work experience doss ond then by working o minimum of 15 hours o week in on ofter-school job. DECA held mony activities throughout the year. The first of these events wos Career Doy in October. Different employers from Los Vegos businesses come to Clark to encourage interest In jobs. The Western Regional Conference wos held in November ot the Marino Hotel. Thirteen Western states participated in the conference, ond there were about 2.000 in attendance. In Jonuory. the group sponsored o Donce-o-Thon to benefit the March of Dimes. An employer-employee bonquet in February helped to explain the purpose of DECA to the employers. Finally, the Stote Conference Competition wos held in Morch; contests included thirteen different oreos of business. DECA held traditional breokfost meetings once o month.
