In porfcct sequence the songleaders entertain students at an assembly. Songleaders provide spirited entertainment for student enjoyment The songleaders had a very eventful school year, highlighted by supplying student entertainment, fund-raising, and attending a summer camp. This year saw many changes on the squad, including several new members. Only two of the nine songleaders returned from last year's group. Although the group was new. many members had experience in previous performing groups. Another change from last year was the move from precision to more dance in their routine. During the summer the songleaders attended a camp at Pepperdine University in Malibu. California. There they earned numerous spirit and execution awards. They received a superior trophy, a spirit stick, and many spirit ribbons: they also placed third out of 38 squads in the home routine competition. Money for uniforms and supplies was raised by many worthwhile activities. The sale of football programs. the production of a songleadinq clinic, and a car wash covered their expenses sufficiently. The squad was advised by Ms. Marilyn Pyles with help from head songleader Lynn Chavira. Songleaders 83

Cavalaires execute knowledge of dance Selectively chosen by a panel of judges during the latter part of the 1979-1980 school year were 17 girls to represent the Clark Cavalaires drill team. The girls endured 7 a.m. practices each day and frequently engaged in after school and pre-game practices. The awards the girls received included a first place trophy for their competition routine, a superior trophy, a spirit trophy, and numerous superior ribbons. Two individual trophies were also awarded to Captain Laura Fielden and Betsy Bonds for being Super Star Drill Team Members. Throughout the school year, the Cavalaires performed at spirit assemblies, football games, basketball games, and the annual Halftime Review.
