Cheerleaders supply spirit and excitement for school activities Spirit and fun-filled described the varsity cheerleaders of 1980-81. The cheerleaders promoted school spirit by making signs, performing skits, and leading cheers at games and assemblies. Student involvement along with a talented squad proved to be a good combination for school spirit. Dana Gerhart was head cheerleader for the squad picked in the spring of 1980. This year the cheerleaders went to camp at Pep-perdine University in Malibu. California. While there, the squad practiced routines, learned new cheers and techniques, and met other cheerleaders. At camp they also earned awards for talent, leadership. and the signs they made. A superior trophy and the spirit stick were awarded to them for their overall performance at camp. To combat the rising cost of uniforms and materials, the squad raised money from bake sales, car washes, and flower sales. Mrs. Brendia Crosby again advised the group.
