Opposition surprised as CHS wrestlers gain upset victories The varsity wrestling team had a very competitive season. Pre-season predictions had them picked to be only respectable, but the grapplers far surpassed the forecast. Head Coach Jim Massey felt that after working out a few small problems such as disciplinary rules and getting people in the correct weight classos. the team really started to perform up to par. The Chargers' first upset was in January. Bonanza, who was picked to be a contender for the state title, fell victim to a spirited Charger squad. The highlight of this match was Jim Tiscareno's pin of previously unbeaten Gary Cote. Massey felt that the win over Bonanza gave the team the confidence needed to make the season successful. The bigqest surprise of the season was Mike Stein, who wrestled in the 98-pound class. Even though it was Stein's first year as a wrestler, he was a consistent winner. Coach Massey commented that the entire team performed well all year. This was Massey's first year as head wrestling coach. The team felt that he did an excellent job in giving them the determination and confidence needed to become winners. 158 Varsity Wrestling

JV strikers show talent and teamwork through tough season Coached by Patrick Webb, the JV soccer team had one of the best seasons Clark High School has ever seen. They averaged five to six points per game, consistently having unusually high scores for soccer. They defeated Chaparral, their toughest competition. 5-1. Leading the JV squad were forwards Jason Cole. Paul O’Gorman and Mike Oeckcr. Also playing consistently well were halfback Gerald Kearney and fullbacks Tim Briare and Jeff Handy. Coach Webb stated.
