1 if X if xi' -fd' ' -i-...N Joe Ross JackWlson BillKauf an Tony Vule ch ll, Klan, OFFICERS Bill Kaufman President Jack Wilson Vice President Joe Ross Secretary Tony Vulevich Treasurer Year by year and little by little since T937 the Forty-niners golden ring of Friendship and Knowledge has been taking shape. It was then that scruffy little boys first met bashful little girls and showed their undying de- votion by tormenting them till they screamed with delight. ln a more serious vein they all strove to master the syllable sounds, the multi- plication tables, the names of continents, and the story of George Washington. They learned to work and play together. Progressing to iunior high school, the Forty- niners unwillingly acquired a new duty, Night- work, which has plagued them ever since, but together they got into things like football, bas- ketball, track, band, chorus, orchestra, and plays. These gave the ring's band of Friendship a chance to grow faster than ever before. They learned too their first step in democratic self- government by campaigning and voting for the officers of their choice. ln the fall of T947 more than 325 Forty- niners came together for the first time from Clair- ton, Wilson, and the townships, and the circle of Friendship was complete. Together for three years they added the final touches of Knowledge studying diligently geometry theorems, verb con- iugations, Shakespeare's plays, chemical formu- las, and typewriter keyboards. Now each Forty-niner wears a gold ring symbolizing both Friendship and Knowledge. They look hopefully to the future when all Na- tions will be bound by one ring-the Golden Ring of World Peace. I
