W, ,Www -W ww -r-Q11-f-fw H , 'f r w-M fs, Q mfwvffrmgrfgg J Senior Glass Prophecy Tonight we are honored to have as our guests the class of '52, but before we go on with t-he banquet I would like to say just a few words in behalf of . . . How many years have passed since that last assembly when we, dignified, proud, and a little above the ordinary, Seniors, sat back in a comfortable position and prepared to hear Mr. B'eck's few wordx? Ah! Yes! Here in the year nineteen-hundred and sixty-two we look back on those carefree days and refresh our memories with pleasant though-ts of ole' C,H.S. But, before turning our attention to the speaker and the banquet, let's look around a bit. Who in the world is that dignified looking general across from us? We don't seem to recognize him. My heavens! It's none other than Harlan Cooper with Lieutenant Shirley M. Barker. Still chasing the ole' boy! Eh, Shirley? In 'case we have not mentioned before, this banquet is being held in honor of the class of '52 of Churchlan-d High School and also as an opening of Privetteis Night Spot which was constructed by those now famous engineers William Hayes Sims, jr. and Garl-and Smith. Interior decorating was perfected by Betty Lou Buchanan with the afble assistance of John Shearin and his assistant Gene Garth- right, who carved the taibles and chairs from imported ma-hogany. Special lighting for the fluorescent chandeliers and electric eyes at all entrances were installed by electrical engineers William and Ja-mes Gwaltney. After inquiring as to the caterer of tonight's meal we found out that she is none other than the former Miss Helen Powell. As Mr. Beck rises at the table of honor to introdu-ce Mayor Thomas Foster Hall, our speaker for tonight, George Laing of Laingis Portrait Salon steps 'up and clicks a few snapshots. Also busy at work is Ray Daniels operating the tele- vision cameras. Our speaker having reseated himself, the spotlight is focused on the stage and through the curtains comes Metropolitan's latest discovery, Miss Carol Hollo- well, who is accompanied by Don Matthews' orchestra with Miss Barbara Clark accompanying her on the piano. Miss Hollowell, her secretary, Barbara Warren, her hairdresser, janet Veong and Mary Ann Mcliiachern, foreign social editor of the New York Daily Tatler, toured Europe together recently and enjoyed a cruise home via Kirchmier's Ocean Lines, Inc. Next on the agenda for the evening is a dramatic sketch by Lizbeth Huffing- ton who Hew in early this morning with Judith Ashworth, famous blues singer, as they put their lives in the hands of Marvin Johns-on, pilot, andi Nan-cy Madison, charming hostess of the Harris Air Lines, owned and operated by Mr. John Ed- win Harris. Accompanying the actresses was their lawyer and companion, Mr. Harry Lake Westfall, Jr., and his secretary Joanne Lemoine. During Miss AshWorth's solo in the side door comes Mrs. Betty Reynolds Philbrick, who had a terrible time finding a baby sitter for the younger Philbricks -Warren, Jr., Betty Sue, Janie and Josephine. Her two steady baby sitters and nurses, Dorothy Borgen and June Hight, could not relieve her due to the class banquet. As We approach -the dance floor we catch the eye of Janie Johnson, Towers' Model, seated with high school companions, Betty Ann Smith and Marlene Bolin, now secretaries of Eddie Wynne, engineer, and Bob De Grouche, dentist, respec- tively. At the table next to them Anna Harris, typist for a local concern, is seated. Physics teacher, Shirley Rocha, and Lieutenant William Reinhold of the Naval Reserve are dancing together now and going up to them is the former Pat Troutman, her husband, and Larry Hasse-ll, who is now a reporter for a local paper. INIr. Beck now rises to adjourn the gathering and also to thank Mr. Kenneth Morris, manager of the Historic Stores, Inc. for donating the food, and Joe Terry who owns his own packing company for the meat for our beloved banquet. Yes-all these changes have taken place in the few years since our high school days, but we still enjoy the remembrance of our true friends met at Church- land High School.
