Senior Class Prophecy — Continued executives along with the ad. His secretary is Joyce Cannady, Benny Jones is the prominent Vice-President, and Murry Myrick is the business manager of this thriving establishment. The two managing cooks of Mr. Beaver’s bakery are the Misses Emily Owens and Kitty Bruckse. Here I see an article in which famous medical authorities are praising Hope Gray for her wonderful work in the field of welfare nursing. Marcella Hassell has also gained recognition for her splendid work in this field. Oh! and here I read where the play “Romeo and Juliet” is starting its second year of prosperity on Broadway with that well-known Shakespearian actress, Miss Kay Hight. On the next page, I read of the gala opening of Bill Carter’s new restaurant featuring Bar-B-Q as his specialty. Attending the opening are such notable figures as Miss Janice Smith, who has just completed her book entitled “Pathway to Knowledge”, Jimmy Shearin, Esquire s leading illustrator, Linwood Brett, Hollywood’s foremost comedian, and Elizabeth Neave, noted woman detective. Oh! Well, I guess Eve just about read the whole newspaper. Let’s see what’s of interest in the latest Strife Magazine. If you happen to look on the page where the staff of the magazine is listed, you’ll see two members of the class of ’49 who hold positions of high esteem. Head- ing the list as editor is that worthy and capable leader, Jean Dawson. Serving as chief of the Domestic News Service is Katherine Miller. My, here’s a picture of Elva Boyd receiving the National Art Award for her achievements in Modern Art. As I venture further into the pages of Strife , I find a very interesting write-up about that successful black-face comedian, Blaine Bennett. There are many pictures of him and his wife, the former Jewell Oglesby. Well, if here isn’t a picture of Aline Nuckols! Strife has chosen her as “The Ideal Housewife.” I am speaking of the Aline Cherry as you knew her in ’49. That MISS has been a MRS. for a long time now. Gorman Fleming has just won an academy award for being Hollywood’s most ardent lover. He was presented the Oscar for his performance in “Love Me Little, Love Me Big.” Here is an article on Kinglin Brothers’ newly organized circus. Bobby Bailey is the jovial Master of Ceremonies. They are billing Sam Gilmore as a fearless lion-tamer. Betty Jo Johnson is the star trapeze artist. My, what’s this? George Whitley, now owner of the Brownhound Bus Line, has just been married. Dear old George! All his dreams have come true. Edward English has a large ad on the next page for his famous Bolognial Stores. He has really risen to success. Featured among the items in his ad is the new gold tipped candy cigarette “for the kiddies” called “Baleigh 309,” introduced by Miss Barbara Hunt. And last, but not least, I come to an advertisment of Nancy Ferguson’s Open Air Market. It is rated as the most modernly equipped market in the country. Yes, the notable achievements of these members of the Class of ’49 are known to all the world. How proud their former teachers must be of them! They claim Churchland High School as their inspiration and guide. May she ever remember them with all love and esteem, as they remember her!
