pirit Week Excitement filled the air when Spir- it Week arrived at Cholla. Spirit week started the week of October 1-5th, The activities includedg hug-a-senior- day CMonday7, hats and shades day fTuesdayJ, Nerd day CWednesdayJ, MTV day fThursdayJ, dress up day QFridayJ. Student Government surveyed for a popular vote on specific interests for spirit week activities. That is how our spirit week was formed. I think it worked out well, said Adriana Bejarano - fcaptain of the songleadersj. On Monday and Tuesday they played a variety of popular music at both lunches. On Wednesday at lunch a contest was held for the best nerd. The winners were Melissa Arvizu and Michelle Cranz. On MTV Day Carla Lippert was the winner for best MTV costume. Both lunches were entertained with an air band, participants were Bob Sullivan on drums, Lee Howard and Tony Neil on electric quitars. It was really awe- some, said Linda Lopez. By Anna Alcarez. Float Committees The 1985 float was a real success for the seniors. The senior float consisted of a blue graduation cap with an or- ange and blue tassle on a white flat- bed. As seniors broke through the top of the cap, they waved pom-poms and threw confetti. This year the theme was, This Is It! The flatbed was fur- nished by Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman. Workers included sponsor Mrs. Judy Long, chairman David Hoffman, H. Bond, L. Carriere, L. Fisher, D. Lo- pez, M. Liversidge, N. Zuniga, M. Ar- chuleta, B. Garman, B. Leonard, C. Quihuis, S. Nothestein, L. Nava, A. Amparano, D. Garcia, V. Fields, A. Brown, J. Friere, J. Johnston, C. Coo- per and V. Fraser. The sponsor for the class of 1987 was Mr. Frame. The class of '87 float was an underwater scene which con- sisted of a treasure chest, mermaid, sand, seaweed and a sign proclaiming, Cholla found a treasure . . . Class of '87l', The materials for this float cost fB71.00. It took the committee two weeks to build the float. Nadine Vare- la's father provided the flatbed. The main workers were V. Lopez, F. Mon- toya, T. Skidmore, M. Cranz, P. A1- varez, and A. Almazan. Other helpers included Y. Betancourt, K. Samor- ano, C. Brown, K. Noble, N. Varela, M. Langston, S. Higgons, S. Files, S. Codd and A. Samaniego. This year's sponsor for the fresh- men float was Ms. Welchert. The class of 1988 float consisted of paper flow- ers in the form of a Charger helmet that was crushing a Palo Verde Titan. It took the committee 82 hours to build the float. The City of Tucson provided the flatbed. The cost for the materials was 38700. The main work- ers were B. Robbins, A. Gomez, N. Be- jarano, A.
