ka! The thought of coming back to school after summer vacation was ex- citing but also scary. It was hard to fall asleep the night before and the early morning alarm pierced the stillness too soon. All that came to mind was the many responsibilities that day would bring such as what to wear, not missing the bus, and the location of the classes, not to mention the locker combina- tion. After a rushed breakfast and a record for dressing, my ride zoomed down the street to the bus stop. Ten minutes or so passed before the yellow monster roared up beside me and I boarded. I had entered the crowded school bus with the hope of finding a friendly face among the masses. Everyone was describing their summer to a friend or talking about concerts and dates. The caravan of busses entered the student parking lot and the thousands of students rushed vi to greet friends and head across cam- pus to the commons area and their lockers. Push -, Shove -, beat the first tardy bell was the main goal as our precious free time came to an end. New students and freshman scurried to the front of the class for a seat while the upper classmen sat in the back. Class by class, teacher by teacher, the day slowly slipped away. The lunch bell sounded and eager freshmen ran to the front of the snack bar lines. Others eased their way through the crowds. The routine was becoming familiar after lunch and as the 2:15 dismissal bell rang we knew we had survived the first day of school! by Heriberto Orozco and Jessica Friend Top Left- Chevy Power!
