Bookstore Manager Mr. Ken Al- bright has worked at Cholla for 11 years and 3 months and stated, Cholla has some of the finest stu- dents in the districtf, Mr. Albright has lived in Tucson for 20 years and believes that this school has a great group of individuals on campus. The bookstore provided many services to the administration. Meticulous filing, record keeping, ticketing, ordering, and management of the fee monies were dealt with daily. Mr. A1bright's responsibilities were to provide the student body with all the books and fees required. Bookstore Clerk Frieda Tubbs has been here for 15 years. Cholla is terrific, she stated. Her responsibil- ities included typing requisitions, let- ters, reports, and collecting fees for locks, yearbooks, picture packets and assisting in fund raisers. She also sold tickets at home activities, and did payroll for activities. Mrs. Tubbs has lived in Tucson for 23 years. Her hob- by has been making flowers from dyed pantyhose. Bookstore Keeper, Ms. Fay Freinerhasbeenworkinginthebook- store 1 year and 4 years previously in the library. Her responsibilities were many faceted and included special as- signments around campus. Ms. Kreiner enjoyed working here and stated, I have very much enjoyed Working with the students here and have made many good friends. Ms. Kreiner has lived 15 years in Tucson and likes to water ski, hike, camp, and make crafts. Counselors Mr. Sid Morgan, the freshman class counselor, chose to be a high school counselor because he felt he could do more with a stable population where people were ready to learn to change and to grow. He has been a counselor for 14V2 years but wanted to be an accountant, a social worker and an employment inter- viewer, and finally a counselor. His main goal at Cholla was to work with the stu- dents as they progressed through high school and to plan what they do after graduation. He spoke to approximately 12 to 15 students on an average day and on other days he spoke to up to 4 classes. Mr. Morgen would talk to students about anything that they felt was impor- tant, but mostly to help them make the most of their skills and their potential for growth. Mr. Morgen summed things up by saying The students at Cholla have a wide range of abilities, interests, backgrounds, and lifestyles. - By Leslie Crum 1 S Complex Social Behavior Mrs. Trudy Harshman, sopho- more class counselor, chose to aid high school students because, Teenagers are the greatest people in the world! She worked with 10 to 200 students on an average day,,and would speak to students about anything Hthere were no restrictions. Mrs. Harshman has always wanted to be a counselor. She taught home economics and physical education and always liked the per- sonal talks and helping kids get through the bad stuff that was block- ing their school progress and life plans. I love the job!', Mrs. Harsh- man stated that the open friendly family feeling was some that few other schools have. Mrs. Harshman's spare time activities are oil painting, golf, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Jeri Lucas, Junior class counselor, has been counseling for 7 years. She has been a special educa- tion teacher and an elementary school teacher too. Mrs. Lucas felt that her main purpose here at Cholla was to help students to successfully graduate with a purpose in mind for the future, and to help them in developing prob- lem solving techniques. The subjects most often talked about when she would speak to students were require- ments for graduation, peer pressure, family problems, the importance of attending class, and whatever else was of importance to them. When asked if there was some special reason why she chose to become a high school coun- selor she replied I love working with teenagers! Some of Mrs. Lucasis spare time activities were local and state church work, bowling, playing the piano, shopping, and eating out! Photos: by Ray Manley Ms. Yvonne Clay, the senior class counselor, chose to become a high school counselor because nadoles- cents are enjoyable to work with and because I want to assist them in mak- ing plans for after high school. Ms. Clay speaks to students about career guidance and academics but she most often talks to them about future school options and requirements. She sees approximately 30 students on an average day, but when she speaks to classes she sees many more. She al- ways wanted to be a teacher but after 8 years of teaching she decided to be- come a counselor, and has been one for 3 years here at Cholla. Some of Ms. Clay's free time activities included camping, running, and spending time outdoors.

ffice Aides and ecretaries Mrs. Yvonne Castro was the Math departments aide. She has been working at Cholla for seven years. Some of her job responsibilities were being the key oper- ator for the Xerox machine, grading pa- pers, and running the math office. Her work hours were from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Castro has also worked with emotional handicapped and gate chil- dren at Rose and Carillo School. Mrs. Rori Pino was the science and language arts aide. She has been working in the testing room, checking out books, and taking inventory. Her work hours were from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Pino worked well with students and stat- ed that she liked everything about Cholla. Some of Mrs. Pino's hobbies are sewing, reading, and baking. Mrs. Shirley Zempel was the lan- guage art's aide and enjoyed helping oth- ers. She has been working at Cholla for about a year and a half. Mrs. Zempel likes working with young adults because she is very impressed with their man- ners, behavior, and vitality. Some of her job responsibilities were answering tele- phones, giving messages, decorating bul- letin boards, helping teachers, and run- ning off ditto materials. Her work hours were from 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Mrs. Zempel felt that the students were very polite and well behaved and that's what made her job most pleasant. Mrs. Zem- pel has worked at Pueblo, Palo Verde, Gridley, Tully, Manzo, Davis, Brichta, Roosevelt, and Drachman. - By Diane Alameda Zn Workaholic Treatment Center Ms. Cherry Sphar and Mari- cela Hernandez attendance re- sponsibilities included typing, an- swering telephones, greeting and helping people at the front window, working the computer, typing reports, and checking addresses to assure they are living in Cholla area. The hardest part of their jobs were keeping track in the weekly changes in student in- formation. Ms. Connie Lopez, secretary for Assistant Principal of Instruction - Sara Cortez and the counselors, has worked at Cholla for the past 4 years. Her secretarial responsibilities in- cluded typing, filing, shorthand, and answering telephones. Mrs. Lopez ran the office smoothly and efficiently whenever possible. In her free time she liked eating, playing tennis, tak- ing walks, and raising her children during the past twenty-four years in Tucson. Mrs. Charlotte Speer secretary to Special Education Chairperson Ms. P.K. Dolgaard, and receptionist for the counselors, began working here this fall. Her responsibilities were keeping records, typing, filing, and storing and transfering student re- cords. Learning the procedures for her job with the Special Education De- partment kept her busy, but in her spare time she sewed, worked in the yard, and also taught Sunday School. Assistant Principal's secretary Mrs. Vi Morales worked with Mr. Robert Bailes taking care of all office activities and answering parents' questions. Mrs. Morales has worked here for 8 years, and thinks Cholla is the Greatest, when she was not work- ing, she was either reading or embroi- dering.
