The sprinting core consisted of: Sen- ior Karl Ellis, Senior Tyrone Boyer, Junior Leroy Hunter, Senior Marty Massengale, Sen- ior James Thorton, Senior Trever Lee, Freshman Anthony Hunter, Junior Ronnie Hayes, Senior Ed Mclver, and Senior Cedric Stanton. In the distance is Senior Julio Freire and Fresh- man Dan Sobel. In the shot put Senior David Lopez excelled and in the discus it was Senior Dono- van Drinnen. The team's main goals were to win all dual and invitational meets and to place among the top three teams in the state. Senior Cedric Stanton stated, I speak for all the seniors when I say that we have enjoyed Coach Browning and his consideration toward each of us. Officers were President Julio Freire, and Vice President James Thorton. The Track Club had many fund rais- 1 Boys Track ers which included having a jog-a- thon, candy sales, and concession stand at basketball games. Their goals were to assist the track team in their development into one of the best teams in the state. Baseball team under second year Coach Albert Mesa achieved their goals by practicing 2 to 3 hours a day, six days a week. The team stressed funda- mentals such as batting and fielding. By using hard work and dedication, the team was looking forward to a very suc- cessful season. The team has proved to everyone that they were tough. There were many young players who had the guts to put their best effort out at the practices and games, even though it meant running laps around the field and doing pushups. Q 3 ,i.i f e ' Coach Marcella Kitt was the coach for girls, track. The members of Track Club were the same mem- bers of the track team. The fund raisers were to assist the girls in meeting their needs and for end of the year award presentations. Their goals were to improve skills and to be one of the very best teams in the state. Photos by Roy Hardy and Monica Valdez This year's Girls' Track coach was Mrs. Marcella Kitt. She had a team of fourteen players. There were five returning runners who were Monica Valdez, Dawn Wells, Michelle Carrillo, Bonnie Conners, and Connie Childs. Junior Michelle Carrillo and Sophomore Bonnie Conners were the leading runners. Mrs. Kitt stated, All the teams this year were the toughest because we were a young team with- out a lot of depth.
