Lolo ky Hook. Mr. Carl Johannesson has been coaching boys' tennis for three years. There were six returning players who were Sophomores Carlos Nava, Bill Fisher, and Jon Barbarow. The har- dest team to play was Tucson High. Team's goals were to build the team and improve on last yearls record. Mr. Johannesson stated, Injuries have hurt our record this year. Wham, Sma h The girls, tennis team consisted of many new and inexperienced players. It was coached by Ms. Faye McCormick. The team practiced daily from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Fundraisers consisted of M8zM's, bagels and chocolate Easter Bunny sales for uniforms. The school supplied the tennis balls and rackets. Improvement was based upon individual practice on various serves, volley tech- niques and lecture notes. The schedule of team meets included: Home games with Catalina, Amphi, Buena, Tucson, Santa Rita, Sunnyside and Palo Verde. Away games were - Sabino, Sunnyside, Palo Verde, Rincon, Pueblo, Buena. The hardest team to beat was Amphitheater because they had a good overall team. Returning players were Senior Grace Granillo, Juniors Jacki Luna, Rose Mo- rales, Andrea Turcotte, Jocelyn Pa- checo, Claudia Portillo, Jona Hrdlicka, Sophomore Melissa Langston, and Freshmen Amanda Sanders, Michelle Vasberg, Stephanie Moll, Sandra Perez, Christina Luna. Officers were Presi- dent - Jona Hrdlicka, Vice President - Renay Moreno-Jr. Treasurer - Christina Luna and Secretary - An- drea Turcotte. Girls' Varsity Basketball players displayed their ability and strengths. High scoring averages went to Jana Boltinghouse, Kelly Olms - For- ward, and Judy Teft - Center. The season began in the first part of March and overall was a very worth- while and successful season. Return- ing Girls' Varsity Basketball players were Jana Boltinghouse, Kelly Olms, Judy Teft, Maria Romero, Roberta Trijillo, Lucinda Garcia, and Char- lene Fortune. Newcomers were Mitti Fields, Barbara Harmon, Rhonda Lockhart, Mary Cano, Tina Jones, Dawn Elvick, Alice Worrell, Hilda Garcia, and Olga Hernandez. Coach Leslie Martin has coached the Girls' J .V. Basketball team for two years. Returning players were Sopho- mores - Lucinda Garcia, Lori Nel- son, Kendall Beamen, and Charlene Fortune. The newcomers who played were Freshman - Barbra Harmon, Dawn Elvick, Thersa Victory, Tina Jones, Olga Herenadez, and Maria Cano. Each girl put in two to three hours of dedicated time every day of the week. Cholla's Girls Basketball Club was a club organized for the basketball team to raise money to participate in summer basketball leagues and camps. Paul Dull was the advisor over the 23 members.
