The Varsity wrestling team was led by AAA State Place winners Frank lnzunza, Travar Lee, and Trevor Lee. The Chargers finished 7th in the State Tournament with supportive help from Dan Figuroa and Art Corral. Chargers dominated the T.U.S.D. 111 Tournament to become the reign- ing champs. The wrestlers who placed in the tournament were Dan Figueroa - 98 lb., Art Corral - 138 lb., Trevor Lee - 191 lb., Joe Montes - 112 lb., 12nd Placej, David Garcia - 105 lb., 13rd Placel Chuck Aquilina - 119 lb., Frank Inzunza - 126 lb., James Men- doza - 132 lb., Travar Lee - 145 lb., and Alex McKenna - 179 lb. They finished 2nd in the South League, 4th at Flowing Wells, and ,6th in the Southern Division. Individually Trevor Lee 126-23 won the South League, T.U.S.D., Flowing Wells, and Southern Division Tournaments. He won 20 matches with pins, and placed 3rd in the State. Frank Inzunza Q20-55 had 12 pins, and placed 3rd in the State. The com- petition was tough because he wres- tled in a class with two State champi- ons and last year's runner up. Frank won the South League, took 3rd at T.U.S.D. and 2nd in the Southern Di- vision. Travar Lee C23-65 won South League, placed 3rd at T.U.S.D., 4th at Flowing Wells, 4th in the Southern Division, and 3rd in the State. The Freshman wrestling team Was made up of several exceptional athletes. Due to a small turnout, the team ended 1 W up with a 5-5 record because of forfeits in the upper weights. The team lead by out- standing frosh Wrestlers: Ronnie Gomez 9-1, Roman Ramirez 9-1, Pete Busta- mante 8-1, Javier Gutierrez 8-2, Mike Corral 8-2, Albert Mendoza 4-4 and Henry Molina 4-6. Coach was Frank Vanalstine, former Cholla graduate and Wrestler. 1' By Anna Alcaraz -1 The Junior Varsity team was coached H 4 by Ron Hinderliter and was led by soph- omores Martin Mace, Ben J esmer, Mario Llamas and part-time Varsity Wrestler was Junior Willie Hess. The J.V. Mat Men started the season with a 4-0 record before some members were called up to Varsity. They finished the season with valuable experience and were looking forward to making the Varsity team next year.
