This was the best record a freshman football team ever had! They were first in the league. The freshman struggled through daily 2V2 hour practices con- sisting of agility drills, offensive and defensive scrimmages. Practice al- ways ended with conditioning exer- cises. The offense was led by Quarter- back Julian Armaro. The offensive line helped block for the successful running backs Ronnie Gomez, Mike Carley, Peter Bustemante, Rollian Strokes, and Leon Bryant. This team had many strengths, but its strongest point was the defenisve tackling of the M.V.P's, Roman Ramierez, Joe Cowan, and Jeff Sleeper. Julian had 726 yards total passing. The leading back was Ronnie Gomez with 56 car- ries and 363 yards. The leading Re- ceiver was Jeff Sleeper who had 15 catches for a total of 410 yards. The total team rushing per game was 128 yards and the total passing was 90 yards. Despite the experienced coaching of hard working Head Coach Cur- tis Flannigan and student Coach Mike Bartly of the Junior Varsity team had a disappointing season. Sophomore players felt that there was a lack of individual as well as team- work effort. The 2V2 hour daily prac- tices consisted of the regular condi- tioning, scrimmages, and specialty teams for punting, kickoff, kick-re- turn. Sophomore Center Ben Jesmer, and Bruce Hunker CQBJ attempted to psyche players up for the remaining plays during the weaker moments. The team finished the season with a 2 win and 6 loss record.
