They ve Got the Beat Eighteen spirited Mat Maids cheered and chanted the wrestlers on to victory. The Mat Maids worked very hard throughout the summer on carwashes which were held almost ev- ery weekend. ln addition, they sold candy and carnations during the school year to help pay for their uni- forms. Second year President Shir- ley Saenz was in charge of calling practices, preparing fundraisers, and organizing the team along with second year Advisor Mrs. Cecilia Mar- mion. Mrs. Christina Armenta also helped with fundraisers and pro- vided transportation to some of the matches. Other officers were Vice President - Michelle Marmion, and Secretary - Linda Lopez. IHS They Got The Pep Squad practiced six to ten hours a Week to perfect their perfor- mances. They performed at every football and basketball game. They were led by Songleader Captain Adriana Bejarano and Cheerleader Captain Maria Mercado. Pep Squad requirements included maintaining a C average all through the year. The squads raised money for uniforms and summer camp. Fun- draisers included car Washes, Walk-a- thons and candy-o-grams. Advisor Ms. Tina Benitez orga- nized the squads. Valdez, Veronica Fuentes, Kevin Sudden Impact was the theme for the 1984-85 Yearbook. Advisor Ms. Catherine Cely has taught at Cholla for 8 years. Apart from being Impact Advisor she also taught Art and Photography. Her main goals for the yearbook staff were to meet all deadlines, produce a better yearbook each year, and to teach students good public relations techniques. It was the responsibility of the staff to interview people, take photographs, write sto- ries, draw layout designs for copy and picture placement and to organize un- derclass picture sessions and year- book sales. The editorial staff consisted of 4 Co-Editors who were, Senior Kim Keeton - Copy Editor, Junior Lucy Varela H Caption Editor, Junior Da- vid Taylor H Layout Editor, and Ju- First Hour QL RJ Jesus Patricia Cowan trin and T nior Kelly Woodrich - Cropping Edi- tor. The 3 Photo Editors were Senior Michael Holte, Senior Dominic Ortiz and Junior Jeff Dollar. Herff Jones Yearbooks Representative was Yvonne Lopez.
