Prosecution vs. Defense Mock Trial representative was Mr. Towne Bishop. There were four tri- als which took place April 13, 1985 at the Tucson City Court. The twelve ac- tive members were fSeniorsJ Jeff Bishop, Martha Valdivia, Brad McKenzie, Margie Walker, Crystal Cooper, Mike Archuleta, CJuniorsJ Chris McBride, Lamont Nesbitt, CSophomoresJ Peter Lippert, Tyrone Vincent, J.B. McElfresh and CFresh- menl Kim Apel. The same criminal case was tried repeatedly. All students played four roles. Each student got to know all four Witnesses so he could play each Witness and develop skills as the attorney for the prosecution and defense. udio Visual Club Len Bryan sponsor of the Audio Visu- al Club had a very successful year as far as recruiting members. The group con- sisted of 14 members with President Dan Groyce in charge. Audio Visual is a group of individuals working and operating mainly television and 16 mm projectors. They also learn to work with the audio visual equipment for filming athletic events such as foot- ball and volleyball meets. To become a member students must have attended the meetings held on Monday afternoons and had an interest in audio visual with a desire to help oth- ers. U.N. helped develop students interest and appreciation of world affairs and problems. This year's advisor was Mr. Dick Browning, meetings were held in Pod A during lunch. In February, Model U.N. members participated in a workshop at the Uni- versity of Arizona where they discussed world problems. Among those attending were Jeff Bishop who received an Out- standing Delegate Award in the Political Committee, and Tyrone Vincent, Mar- tha Valdivia and Chris McBride who successfully represented Cuba before the International Court. Julio Freire and Kim Wilkenson who were on the Securi- ty Council as well as Jon Barbarow, Da- vid Lawson, Norma Zuniga, Mike Archu- leta, Tina Amparano, John Pawley, Brad McKenzie and Jana Boltingouse. Their being selected was based on scholarship, leadership, and academics. Throughout the year, the club had monthly fundraisers and com- munity services. These included donat- ing a turkey to a retirement home, and during Christmas they donated Christ- mas bags with candy, fruit, etc. to an orphanage. This year's officers were: President - Steve Warrior fSeniorJ Vice-President - Barbara Garmen CSeniorJ, Secretary - Lorraine Fisher fSeniorJ, Treasurer - Richie Sander- ville. The advisor was Mr. Len Bryan. Students Against Driving Drunk was a new group whose goal was to help pre- vent alcohol related accidents. The offi- cers included Tiffanie Cahill CSeniorJ, Vice-President - Steve Anreacola CSophomoreJ, Treasurer - Joanne Corral fSeniorJ, and Secretary - Robin Runge CSeniorJ. The 15-member club wanted to make people aware of the hazards involved in driving drunk. Statistics showed that over 21 deaths occur daily from driving while intoxicated and that a high per- centage of deaths were people between the ages of 16 and 24. S.A.D.D. members did not condem drinking but the act of driving drunk. The students recom- mended that a parent-child contract be discussed in families which would en- courage teenagers to call their parents for a ride home from parties when one or more of their friends had been drinking heavily.
