Misfclult, ll, l'rm-sslcr, Thespians Local Thespian Troop No. 144, of the Nation- al Dramatic Honor Society, commenced the year's activities by attending the Speech Institute at the Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire, Oct. 18. Two one-act plays were presented for the public at the Junior High Auditorium November 19. They were The Ghost Story and The Minuet. The cast of The Minuet was Claudette Miller, Ronald Mastin, and David Pressler. It was entered in thc district Drama Festival at Eau Claire Nov. 22, and won an A rating, advanced to the sectional contest at Rice Lake Dec. 1, won an A rating, entered the state contest at Eau Claire Dec. 12 and won a C rating. On January 28, the Thespians presented a Western Jamboree. This successful, money- making project was a combination of Western Acts, music, melodrama, dancing and candy sale. Understudies who had earned enough points were initiated into the group March 18 at the annual Open House. 8. 12. 16. 18. 19. 23. 24. 26. 27. 1. 5. 10. 18. 24. 31. 6-7 7 10-14. Cal SEPTEMBER Everyone came happily back to school. We had a wonderful game at Stevens Point. They tied us 13-13. Vida Chenoweth from the University of Wisconsin gave us a very nice program with the marimba. Dr. Cutshall gave an educational talk on Temperance, The team went excitedly to Bloomer for a game, but accepted defeat, 26-0. Everyone had their pictures taken. Hope the camera is still in good order. The big Magazine Campaign began. Menomonie came to Chippewa and gave us a 21-6 beating. Band went to Eau Claire State College. OCTOBER Members of different organizations had their pictures taken - Every one looked so pretty? Cards went to Marinette where they took quite a beating. The score: Marinette 27, Chippewa 0. Homecoming: The biggest game of the season and also our first win. We began the big day by having pep assembly, with each class putting on a skit. That night a parade was held with floats representing different organizations. Before the game started our Queen, Linda Lea was crown- ed. Next the most important item of the day . . . The big game. We beat Rice Lake 27-6. The day ended with a dance in the Junior High Gym. Speech Institute: A bus load of kids in- terested in speech went to E. C. S. C. to learn the How's and Why's of making speeches and preparing debates. Eau Claire Game: The game everyone awaits. This year we played on our home field. The game was close all the way but, of course, one team has to lose. The final score was: Eau Clai1'e 7 - Cards 6. This year, for the first time we played Winona. The game was close and our boys played good ball. Final Score: Winona 14, Chippewa 0. This ended our football sea- son. NOVEMBER The teachers met for a Convention at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first nine weeks ended today. This was American Education Week. A very nice bulletin display was shown in the hall. endar 17 20 21 21-28. 22 26 1 2 5. 9. 12. 16. 18. 19. 20. 5 6 8. 10 The Thespians presented two very fine plays. The first one was The Minuet, and the other was The Ghost Story. The district drama contest was held at Eau Claire with a ve1'y fine representation of Chi High students the1'e. The G.A.A. dance was held at Jr. High. School closed for Thanksgiving Vacation. Chi Hi participated in the Eau Claire Dis- trict Drama Contest. Today we had an Assembly program with Joseph Carls. DECEMBER Drama contest at Rice Lake, at which we received an A rating for the play The Minuet. Cornell basketball game, here, which we won 51-48. Another basketball game against Rice Lake, which brought us another victory, 50 to 46. It was also played here. Well, we lost to Bloomer on this date, but it was a good game. 74-80. We got back in the old groove today and beat Spooner, 60-57. The Christmas Concert was a big success. Well, we lost a heartbreaker to our old rivals, the Old Abes of Eau Claire. The game was played in the new college gym and the score was 49-50. Also, we had a Band Concert, which was enjoyed by everyone there. Christmas program of the serious type and the audience was very attentive and enjoyed it very much. The Midwinter Formal was a very gay occasion where everyone enjoyed them- selves a great deal. JANUARY Christmas vacation has ended so we must get back to the old grind. Oh well, we've only a semester or so left. Tonight we played our first game without Coach McGuire. The Cards were really on the ball and they won the game 68-42. Chuck Mehls, Carol Roycraft, Ellie Mason, Cynthia Boman and Elton Smith left for the all-state band concert which was held at Madison, Wisconsin. The Cards went to Marinette today. We lost the game 85-46. The boys, however, still have a souvenir of that game - stocking caps! An important debate tour- nament was held at Eau Claire State Teachers College too.
