To give these students an opportunity to display these talents and the student body the chance to view them, a Talent Show was held on Thursday january 14, at 7:30 p. m The multipurpose room was filled to capacity. M.E.C.H.A. Assembl On Monday October 12, 1970 MECHA celebrated its first fiesta El Dia De La Raza. John Vicario, MECHA Chairman recited a poem. A group of young Mariachis ranging from 8 to 16 years of age came from East Los Angeles to help celebrate by playing many canciones . A chili eating contest was one of the main highlights of the day. First prize which was five dollars was Won by Mike Robles. Second prize, a jar of chili, was Won by Mitch Thomas. Third prize and probably most rewarding was a glass of water, won by David Rivasq' During both lunch periods real ' homemade tamales made by the MECHA members were sold. The fiesta was dedicated to the late Mr. Ruben Salazar, who was an out- standing reporter. Mike asking for more chilies. Tamale Sale! L., Mariachis play an encore.
